Established reality production company looking for an assistant editor with a background and interest in Graphics. After FX experience is a huge plus. Must be very comfortable with AVID, ISIS Management and troubleshooting. The person we're looking for must be capable of digitizing, grouping, outputting and uprezzing footage. Both tape and digital workflows are used. Knowledgable of LTO storage backup is a plus.
The most important quality we're looking for is an attention to detail. We are located in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles.

This will run for 6 month run.

Role Overview:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Line edit DC-based and politics stories in coordination with other Digital editors.
Write breaking lines on breaking news.
Work with Digital's senior editorial leaders, the DC editorial teams and Newsgathering to ensure robust and timely coverage of DC-based and politics stories.
Assist with live coverage of DC-based and politics stories, including editing live blogs during special events.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

At least 5 years of news writing/editing experience, including breaking news
Proven ability to write clean copy and edit on a deadline
Track record of working on DC-based and politics stories for a major online news organization
Experience with web publishing and AP style
Track record of collaborating with reporters and editors of all experience levels in a fast-paced newsroom.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION

Job Summary:

We are seeking a full-time freelance News Editor to join the *** Digital team.

The person in this role will be responsible for line editing text stories that are published on *** News.com, working with reporters, senior leaders and our legal and standards teams. This person will also write and report breaking news stories as needed.

Though a key part of the role is managing text stories, the person in this role is also responsible for coordinating other key editorial elements and liaising with the wider newsgathering operation as well as broadcast units, the Digital video team, and the audience development team, which oversees our platforms and social *** .

The ideal candidate is someone who is a thoughtful editor and writer, and has experience handling or leading breaking news coverage, is a self-starter and does well under pressure.

The hours are generally 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Tuesday through Saturday, though the hours may change on occasion due to coverage needs. This person can also opt to work in a hybrid model in our New York headquarters, Washington Bureau or Los Angeles Bureau.

The pay rate for this role in Los Angeles, New York, and DC is $38.00 to $52.00 per hour.
