We are searching for cinematographers for 4-6 week in market opportunities for corporate filmmaking projects.
Our Lead Cameras capture beautiful footage, help shape story arcs for clients, and mentor and lead B Cameras on and off set. This is not a traditional A Camera role. Our Lead Cameras take on many DP responsibilities and interface with clients.
Therefore, this role requires an understanding of story arc and the ability to capture cinematic footage on-the-fly. We approach shoots with an eye for crafting compelling documentary-style visuals, not stale corporate video. The ideal candidate is comfortable and excited to be in a client-facing role, to direct others (crew and talent), and to concept story arcs.
Problem-solving, flexibility, and creativity under pressure are prized above all else.
Though this is a more ‘run and gun’ shooting style, we have a well refined process designed to free you up to do what you do best - tell a story via beautiful visuals!
This role does not require editing experience – but we love those who have it. We firmly believe editors make better shooters, and vice versa. We seek out those with talents and interests beyond their core specialty. Shooting for the edit is a core maxim for our team.
We’re looking for:
– Natural storytelling abilities. You can instinctively tease out and develop a subject’s storyline over the course of an on-set interview or a high-level creative brief with your producer.
– Teamwork abilities. You can work fluidly within a team, taking the lead at times or following direction at other times.
– Passion for the documentary production process, and the mix of freedom, creativity, and resourcefulness that it engenders.
– Understanding the filmmaking process head-to-tail. Knowing what a producer or client or editor or sound person may need from you/your work, and fulfilling those needs proactively.
– Basic sound knowledge.
– Desire to work in a fast-paced environment, with a highly-effective crew.
– Clear and demonstrated strength in crafting compelling visuals and stories in a documentary style.
– Curiosity in people and places of all types. We work with a lot of people in a lot of cities.
Additional Responsibilities:
– Managing data. End-of-day shoot downloads, maintaining redundancy, and handling logistics of shipping drives & data as required.
– Leading the camera team. Work with your 2nd cameraperson on gear prep, debriefing a day’s shoot, and leading footage feedback sessions.
– Providing on-the-fly direction to on-camera talent in “slice of life”-type documentary scenarios.
– Mastering our gear package, which includes Canon cameras and MōVi.
