Job Description

*** 'S *** McAllen News Internship provides students with real world experience and exposure to working in a top ten television market and in a high-energy newsroom. Interns may gain experience on the Assignment Desk, writing/producing, and/or with working on our digital platforms.

Successful interns will demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to step out of their comfort zone. We are looking for students who are highly motivated and who can function as a team member or independently in a fast-paced news environment.

Interns are introduced to every aspect of our news operation, within a structured and supervised environment. Local news interns spend time in each unit observing, learning, and participating.

During their rotation, interns will:

Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editing.
Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
Shadow producers and assignment editors
Handle daily office administration functions and assist on the assignment desk.
Create individual special project opportunities.
Interns should have some experience in journalism, at least in the classroom, but preferably in a television newsroom setting.
Schedule requirements: Interns should be willing to work a variety of shifts in order to get the best experience.

Qualifications

In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
Must receive credit for internship.
Must be bilingual in Spanish (written and verbal).
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by *** Universal.
Need to be able to work on-site in McAllen,Texas

Job Description

Newscast Producers work closely with assignment editors, reporters, and anchors to produce, write, edit, and gather content on all **** platforms.Producers will be responsible for the overall newscast and coverage of assigned stories on all platforms throughout the day, including but not limited to Streaming platforms, web, and broadcast.

Must be knowledgeable on daily news events, aware of past events, and understand news in the South Texas market.
The ideal Newscast Producer candidate is expected to be a key communicator in the newsroom, talking with each person who will participate or provide content for that newscast.
Collaborate with managers, digital team, and assignment desk to deliver complete local news coverage that is fair and accurate.
Be a key contributor for story ideas, participate in daily coverage decisions and be a leader during editorial meetings.
Must be able to line-produce newscasts.
Quickly adjust to late changes and be aggressive in breaking news coverage.
Must understand the station's mission and priorities.
Stay on top of the latest graphic tools to visually enhance and showcase stories.
Write news scripts and edit video clips.
Must be able to produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising credibility.
