The Midland Reporter-Telegram is looking for a dynamic reporter looking to dig into the Midland community and cover the stories our readers most want to know.

And we give extra points for innovation - not only covering those stories but also telling them in a way that draws in readers.

You'll cover the people who live here. You'll write about their daily lives and the challenges they face, documenting their victories and losses.

You're covering the racially- economically- and politically diverse community which means you're taking the time to get to know them and what's important to them and using that information to further your reporting.

You're using all the tools at your disposal to reach those audiences. So, you need a command of social *** , an eye for gathering and disseminating information quickly and accurately and a desire to use your smartphone as a reporting tool.

We're looking for a reporter with a focus on government or business, but you'll also have the freedom to cover more than just that. Some days you could profile a local artist, others you'll cover the environmental and human cost of the petrochemical industry while still others you could chronicle the vibe at a community event.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in journalism and at least two years of newsroom experience, preferably in a coverage area that you can show set you up for the job

• Social *** and multi *** skills

• Excellent time management and organizational skills

Editorial Director, Midland Reporter-Telegram

The Reporter-Telegram, a subsidiary of *** Newspapers, seeks an experienced, digitally minded Editorial Director to oversee our online and print publications in the rapidly growing city of Midland, Texas The Editor will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and editing content for our talented team of reporters and editors.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
• Create digital and print content considering reader of audience appeal.
• Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.
• Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
• Review and approve proofs submitted by reporters prior to publication production.
• Supervise and coordinate work of editorial department.
• Plan the contents of publications according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements.
• Work with Audience Development team to create digital content based on audience data.
• Allocate print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles.
• Oversee publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements.
• Assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage.
• Confer with other departments and management regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories.
• Determining how money will be spent to get the work done, and accounting for these expenditures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• At least 5 years' experience working in the field.
• Knowledge both in maintaining and driving a digital-first thinking in the newsroom to being able to study and determine trends based on analytics.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Knowledge of *** production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual *** .
• Knowledge and use of AP Style.
• Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
• Motivate, develop and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Manage one's own time and the time of others. Using a computer application to lay out pages, type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word processing documents.
• Requires meeting strict deadlines.
• Knowledge of content manager systems for both print and online.
