Lit a 90’ x 50’ built set in such a way as to facilitate sweeping camera moves showcasing fashion models. People and clothes needed to look great and receive no shadows from pillars, clothing racks, Fisher Dolly, Briese umbrella, etc. Led an eight-person Electric department through prep and prelight alongside seven grips, then executed the shoot with 4&4 G&E crew. This was high-end commercial lighting to fulfill deep stop requirements & simultaneously provide flattering light for high key 270 degree views. Equipment included a Briese, (2) 18K booklights, a 16K HMI balloon with 40x40’ diffusion at the ready; Vortex8s and 1200d Pros were rigged to the set and in scissor lifts on wireless control. Lit a historic cathedral in Hollywood for a series of recorded talks by Bishop Robert Barron. Created consistently shaped facelight all day despite the movement of the sun. The specification was for a consistent deep stop, to be achieved in a way suitable for eight cameras from various angles, all without creating Technocrane shadows. I created and executed the light plot. We set distro and lights in all kinds of nooks, crannies, balconies, and catwalks, some of which were only accessible by their own set of stairs or dog door-type openings.

I designed physical lighting solutions for:
• Subtle shadow movements coming from computer-generated trees

I was asked to conceive and shoot a naturalistic yet visually interesting and safety-conscious sequence of a taxi driving at night. After careful research including consulting two ASC DPs, we shot driving plates and then shot the car scenes in a Minneapolis soundstage with a total of 17 lighting instruments, many of which were part of animated lighting gags. We used a wide range of lights from tungsten 5Ks to tiny LED units within the car. Everything was picked with technical analysis and diagrammed carefully in advance, so that only small tweaks had to be made on the shoot day. Once the stage shoot was done, we shot outside on a Minneapolis winter night with the picture car coming to a stop in front of the skyline.

Reinforced the warm, inviting feel of the existing light, which was from table lamps in addition to incoming daylight. Controlled bright spots and created flattering facelight for VIP subject who has appeared on nearly every major TV network. (DVDs of various TV appearances can be seen on frame right.)
