- Title: Boston Gay Men's Chorus Videos
- Job Requirements: This is a remote job.
-
Additional Requirements:
- Have you edited documentaries?
- Are you passionate about telling LGBTQ+ stories?
The Boston Gay Men's Chorus has been making documentary videos and films for 10 years. They range from small, intimate portraits of members all the way up to documentary web series and feature films about their international tours.
In short, we need a storyteller. Editing skills, tricks, and talents are well and good, but that is not what we're hiring for; we need someone who can weave the lyrics of our music together with the heart and soul of our stories. The Director of Video, Michael Willer, is an experienced documentarian, as is the Executive Director Craig Coogan. They are both looking for a story-minded individual who is passionate about LGBTQ+ issues and can express that passion in documentary form.
Sometimes the projects are simple; a promo for the next show or finding b-roll for a TV special. Even in these straightforward cases, we focus on what tells the best story for the audience to understand us and our mission of changing hearts and minds through music. We also have some major productions underway including 2 documentary feature films and a co-production with Disney Concerts.
That said, we are a small, tight-knit team tackling many, many projects simultaneously and the need for an additional editor is high. As a non-profit it's hard to offer a highly competitive rate, but what we can promise is immediate payment (within minutes of invoicing), a friendly and professional work relationship with people who are passionate about these stories, and a supportive environment where communication and accessibility are important. It's the basics, but they're the building blocks to a good working relationship and we wear that with pride.
As an editor you must be proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro primarily, with After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, and Davinci Resolve being major plusses (in that order). You tasks will range from assistant editing in support of larger projects (feature films, TV specials, etc) to lead editing on shorter projects like Member Spotlights and promos. The more you're able to dig into the heart and soul of our mission-driven organization and bring that into your edits, the more work we'll have for you and the more responsibilities we will entrust you with.
Initially the term will be for 1 project, editing a companion piece to the audition promo in November. If this goes well, we have an ongoing slate of projects that will never run out, so the work can continue for as long as the fit is right. We've made hundreds of videos, most of which you can find on our YouTube channel BGMC1982. Thanks for applying, we look forward to speaking with you!
