Your New Role...The Compression Manager provides technical oversight and staff management within a 24x7x365 news, entertainment and OTT environment.Manages and coaches a highly skilled technical staff in support of live broadcasts and state of the art video compression systems, while being accountable for both individual and team performance with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
The successful candidate will join a team that maintains a full broadcast center and/or on-air broadcast video compression chains for the *** entertainment and news networks, including *** , HLN, *** , *** and *** . Successful delivery of enterprise-wide video compression support requires one to foster a collaborative working relationship with key stakeholders and in partnership with subject matter experts who may be local or across cities to meet the needs of a large base of customers. The role is accountable for designing, building, budgeting, pricing, and enhancing end user technologies. In-house broadcast production support of live shows will require a thorough systems knowledge of an IP-centric broadcast infrastructure and production workflow which includes control rooms, newsrooms, terminal gear rooms, A/V routing, signal processing, etc. Adherence to the ITSM Ser *** Management process in planning and managing changes to minimize impact in a critical broadcast environment and to deliver value to our customers is required. This includes documenting issues/requests and escalating as required for problem management and resolution.
The ability to scope, review and determine a budget for projects, and following the project management process is required. Responsibilities also include managing budgets, external ser *** providers and vendors, assisting with pricing strategy and managing customer relationships with divisional partners. Incumbent must have experience and demonstrate excellent in planning and communication skills, including effective prioritization of tasks and multi-tasking *** ween several projects.
The Manager is also responsible for developing, delivering and managing end-to-end solutions for client groups, staying current on rapidly changing technologies, as well as mentoring and developing talent within the group. The Manager works with *** leadership, business partners and external ser *** providers to understand the business outcomes of services and underlying technologies. The Manager defines and tracks Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive ongoing improvements in ser *** delivery performance and operational excellence including increased ser *** levels, speed to market, and cost effectiveness.
A willingness to perform varied tasks, adopt to changing priorities and strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Your Role Accountabilities...- Coach and lead other team members in analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving issues with a wide variety of broadcast television equipment in a timely and professional manner. Perform all aspects as a team leader in the design, installation, configuration and repair of sophisticated, state of the art transmissions infrastructure as well as diverse IT related systems. Participates as a team leader in the planning, installation and configuration of all relevant broadcast technology projects. Perform and coach other team members in maintenance of broadcast and/or satellite receiving equipment. Documenting quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures and reference materials.
- Provide leadership in support of organizational direction and culture. Mentor, guide, develop, coach, and support employee growth. Manage employee performance or discipline issues; make recommendations for compensation, recognition, transfer, promotion, or other personnel decisions. Facilitate collaboration across all disciplines and projects and assist teams with resolution of issues.
- Ensure the on-air readiness of all systems. Implement maintenance protocols and backup plans to maintain facilities up time. Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts and make recommendations for equipment replacement and renewal for modernization and guaranteed support.
- Manage the customer relationship by providing frequent updates regarding status of equipment, issues resolution and projects. Attend or host weekly status meetings with customers to discuss issues and ser *** requests.
- Review planning decisions related to budget and equipment needs and constraints for projects. Understand the long term planning implications of the project and follow the project management process. Provide research, documentation, capital forecast and coordinate staffing resources to ensure projects are completed on-time.
- Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Participate in the creation or revision of quality standards, department procedures, and project plans. Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems. Manage and track department asset.
Qualifications & Experiences...- At least five years experience in managing or supervising a team who provide video compression/broadcast support in television broadcasting environment.
- At least one year as a Project Manager or similarly recognized senior/leadership role.
- Demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle and experience with major technology deployment projects.
- Demonstrated competency with basic server, networking topology and operating systems (e.g., NT, Unix, etc.)
- Must be willing to be on call for coverage of critical technical systems as well as high profile programming event.
- Willingness to learn all *** proprietary equipment and applications.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with ITSM Ser *** Management process and/or ticketing tools (e.g. Ser *** Now, Remedy)
- Microsoft network certification, Cisco certification
- Software skills (e.g. Visio, Linux, V.B., C++) and familiarity with Autocad, MS-Project
- Comfortable presenting information in small to medium group settings with Power Point or other presentation tools.
- Understands networking/routing protocols • Must have a good understanding of system design and able to follow flow drawings • Prior experience with Mpeg encoding systems Video routers, video multi-viewer systems a plus
- Competent with documentation tools such as CAD and Visio
- Experience managing cross functional technical support teams.
