JOB DESCRIPTION
*** 26, the multi-platform *** owned and operated news and information operation in Houston is looking for an Associate Producer who's ready to help us re-invent how local news and original programming is created and delivered. The ideal candidate will move seamlessly *** ween linear and digital platforms, gathering and editing video elements, writing engaging headlines, teases and copy, along with building graphics for various platforms, as assigned by Producers and Executive Producers.
At *** 26, we train our Associate Producers to master their primary role, while also preparing to grow their careers as full-fledged Producers. You'll learn how to build news segments, create rundowns, manage breaking news and severe weather, and execute news programs in the control room. Once your training is complete, you'll be expected to produce newscasts and other programs on a fill-in basis. You will also have the chance to field produce and gather content during big sporting events, election coverage, breaking news and local original specials.
Houston is a fast-paced, breaking news and severe weather market of more than 7.5 million people. This position comes with tight deadlines, schedules that could include overnights, early mornings, evenings, and holidays. The ideal candidate must be willing to work any of these shifts and must be prepared to respond to "all-hands-on-deck" situations such as major breaking news events and natural disasters.
A 4-year degree in journalism, *** studies or related field is preferred. At least one year's experience working in digital *** and/or a smaller television market is preferred. Proficiency with Photoshop and desktop video editing software is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of newsroom computer systems such as I-News, AWS and SLACK is a plus. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be willing to work any shift as needed.

**** YOU'LL DO:
- Manage and maintain all broadcast equipment/systems responsible for daily on-air operation of the station; Use of RF engineering knowledge to maintain and repair all technical equipment in studio and transmitter facilities, satellite downlink/uplink, and microwave transmission systems
- Manage and maintain all ancillary systems responsible for supporting the on-air operation, such as HVAC, networking, electrical, and mechanical.
- Exercise knowledge of FCC rules and regulations to protect the entity's license.
- Proactively engage with necessary third parties to resolve technical issues in an expedited manner as they arise.
- Carry-out troubleshooting as needed or escalate to Engineering Support for further diagnosis.
- Implement new engineering projects as directed by Regional Director, Station Operations, Station Monitoring, or Engineering Support. Manage project(s) and report status to Regional Director, Station Operations as needed.
- 24/7 on-call availability to ensure continuous operation of the station.
- May be responsible for certain administrative duties related to business and operation transactions.
- Work closely with the Station Engineer/Technician in developing their knowledge and understanding of the various needs of the station as effective back-up support staff.
- Coordinate and oversee training program for Station Technicians and Engineers.
- Other duties as assigned.
**** YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electronic) or a related field preferred; or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in broadcast station operations or engineering
- Broadcast Engineering Certification, i.e. FCC license, Society of Broadcast Engineer (SBE) certification is a plus
**** YOU'LL BRING:
- High proficiency with computers to include Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
