So Much Film is a documentary/nonfiction production company in New York City with a long history of producing television for networks from ABC to HGTV to PBS, along with films that have been released theatrically and internationally. We continue to seek a full-time Director of Development who can help us get to the next level with creating our new slate of independent documentaries and documentary-series for streaming channels and independent release. This executive will play a critical role in helping to identify and develop future projects for the company. This position will only be minimally focused on basic cable TV docu-series or reality programming.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for someone with extensive experience in this space developing documentary series such as bios or films/series in the spaces of social justice, historical, current events, crime and politics. The job is for a very strong idea generator on top of current events and news.

Applicant should have experience:

Concepting ideas for new documentary series.
Casting characters and stories.
A demonstrable track record of creating projects that have sold.
Experience writing treatments and decks.
Knowledge of the buyers and who is buying what. Relationship with buyers is a plus.
Identifying and developing program formats, concepts and genres for streaming, premium cable and broadcast networks.
Identifying programming opportunities based on current cultural trends.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Five years in the Film/TV business with a minimum of three years in formal development.
A creative thinker with great programming instincts. Someone able to develop innovative programming concepts and formats that will attract streaming, cable and network partners, audiences, advertisers, and distributors.
A real idea generator with a great understanding of film and television. Someone who is able to think in a non-traditional manner.
Extensive experience developing multiple forms of non-scripted programming. A proven and successful track record.
Someone good at making presentations (pitches) with ability to champion their ideas and sell a concept.
Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills. Able to communicate creative goals and the value of the programming to co-workers.
A working knowledge of physical production is preferred, including an understanding of editing, field work, budgets and the overall execution of a show production process.

We are based in the NY/CT area and while we are remote for now, there is a chance that we would be back in the office at some point. For this reason, it is best the applicant live in the tri-state area but not absolutely required.
