Overview
Princeton University's Office of Communications promotes and protects the University's reputation of excellence in teaching, research and service to humanity. The office produces videos for the University's central communications channels such as YouTube, social media channels and princeton.edu. We are looking for a versatile and talented Video Editor who will have the opportunity to create compelling videos with high production values in a variety of styles, from research explainers and event highlights to documentary films, straight-to-camera statements, interviews, and commercials/PSAs.
Reporting to the Multimedia and Projects Editor, the Video Editor will work closely under the direction of the Multimedia Supervisor and will collaborate with all teams in Communications and campus partners. This is primarily an onsite abd in-person position based in Princeton, NJ.

Responsibilities
• Serve as editor on video projects
o Contribute during brainstorming sessions and pre-production planning
o Craft a narrative from interviews and footage
o Draft contextual text in videos
o Select b-roll
o Select and edit to music
o Create lower thirds, credits and other graphics/motion graphics
o Color grade footage
o Produce final audio mix
o Export videos for a variety of resolutions/formats/channels
o Organize and archive footage for video library at a project's completion
• Assist on video shoots
o Assist on set: transporting equipment, setting up, positioning equipment, operating second or third camera, filming b-roll
• Other tasks as needed
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 5 years of experience in video pre-production, production and post-production
• Proficiency in editing
• Some experience with filming, lighting and audio
• Strong storytelling skills and fresh visual aesthetics
• Knowledge of trends in mobile and digital video
• Positive outlook and good collaboration skills
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to jump between projects daily
• Strong communication skills
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly highly skilled in Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in film/TV production
• Valid permanent driver's license
• Must be willing to primarily work onsite in Princeton, NJ
• Must be willing to work some nights, weekends and holidays
• Ability to lift and handle equipment; ability to distinguish colors accurately for filming and editing
• Must meet requirements for lifting/handling equipment, including: Stand or walk for 2-4 hours at one time, up to 6 hours per day. Sit for fewer than 4 hours during an 8-hour day. Lift or carry up to 25 pounds frequently (34-66% of the workday) and up to 50 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday). Lift up to 50 pounds in a range of motion from floor to shoulder height. Push or pull with forces up to 35 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday). Use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling frequently (34-66% of the workday). Possess physical agility and full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance. Hold a camera and/or other relevant equipment to photograph multiple events per day. Sit at a computer for long periods of time while editing videos.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Higher education experience or marketing experience
• Radio and/or podcasting experience
• Proficiency in animation
• Experience creating content about science and data
