We are a small, Chicago-based media company in search of a Chicago-based field producer to execute a 3-4 week corporate filmmaking project. We have one project April 23 - May 13, and another on April 30 - May 24. You will travel, live and work with two Chicago-based cinematographers to capture interviews and footage for a series of corporate short films. All of your travel and accommodations are booked and purchased by us.

Our most successful producers love people - hearing their stories, getting to know them and making them feel comfortable. Most have a unique combination of experience and interest in journalism, film and marketing. This role is heavily client-facing. Our producers are responsible for identifying storylines, conducting interviews and being the client’s main point of contact in market.

Understanding of story arc and how to interview regular people (non-actors) to get the right soundbites and emotions are key skills. The producer must have the ability to observe character details, know when to lead a conversation, when to be led, and most importantly, know how to coexist comfortably with people. Prior experience interviewing non-actors is essential.

As the project lead, the producer is also responsible for all communications, client meetings, day-of-shoot logistics, smooth flow of all operations and delivery of assets on and off set. This role is supported by an in-house Supervising Producer and film team at the company’s office in Chicago.

Requirements and Skill Set:
Experience and comfort with interviewing non-professional talent on camera. Ability to make clients feel comfortable being on camera and being filmed.
General understanding of film production, set etiquette and protocol. Adaptability and quick-thinking problem-solving are key.
Acutely developed interpersonal skills in person, on the phone, and in written communication (email, text, etc). The ability to lead both production crew and client interactions is paramount.
Must have the keen ability to listen and focus upon the client during interviews with them.
Strong project management skills including the ability to track multiple client shoots and day-of logistics. Attention to detail is critical.
Specific years of experience are not required, but professionalism and polish are key.
Recent graduates with non-schoolwork film/video experience are encouraged to apply.

*** is looking for a proactive journalist who is passionate about Asia and would relish the challenge of becoming a Field Producer based in our Japan bureau. The successful candidate will be primarily assigned to stories in Japan but may be required to cover news anywhere in the world.

The Field Producer is part of *** 's award winning International Newsgathering operation. Responsibilities include coming up with ideas for distinctive stories, researching them and making successful pitches to editorial leaders. The successful candidate will then see stories through to broadcast and publication. He/she will work closely with television and digital staff on all stories so having good communication skills is essential. He/she will also be charged with identifying news stories/breaking news stories from Japan on any given day and flagging to the desk as well as driving with the newsgathering efforts around those stories.

Field Producers work hand in glove with some of the world's most respected correspondents and will be required to operate at the highest standard. During the course of managing a story, the successful candidate will ensure that legal and editorial integrity issues are handled according to company policy. Producers are also required to work up budgets for stories and ensure those budgets are adhered to.

Breaking news is a key component of what *** does. Field Producers are often deployed into the field to cover a wide range of stories including riots, natural disasters, wars, terrorist attacks, big political developments and a whole lot more. Your Role Accountabilities...

The Field Producer is a key position which requires making editorial decisions, coordinating logistics and overseeing the quality of our news coverage in the field and in the bureau. This person will be in charge of live producing, package producing, coordinating breaking news events and working with our security experts to ensure that safety is managed properly.
A Field Producer must also have a strong understanding of both television and digital requirements and be able to produce content to a high standard.
The successful candidate must have strong writing skills. Stories usually require copious amounts of research, vetting appropriate sources for information and obtaining the right video/stills. The length of a Field Producer's day varies depending on the news agenda and may differ when working in the bureau or on assignment.
This position may also require working on the newsgathering desk as/when needed.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully interact with all departments
Proven experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop are strongly preferred
Strong non-linear editing skills
Working knowledge with camera, audio, and light equipment
B.S. or B.A. with related experience preferred
Must be able to provide a reel of work examples - include a web address with your resume and cover letter
Valid driver's license
