Digital Desk Editor to join our digital team.
The successful candidate is innovative, with strong social *** experience combined with solid news judgment. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, video and photo-editing skills and the ability to work a flexible schedule.
The job will also require the skills of a traditional Assignment Editor. The right candidate will be trained to listen to police scanners and manage assignment desk operations. The Digital Desk Editor position will split their time *** ween producing digital content and assignment desk duties.
Responsibilities: - Produce audience first, engaging content through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social *** , push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.
- Review and respond to news releases, news tips, emails, user-generated content and social *** messages to identify unique, local and engaging content.
- Do all necessary reporting efforts to turn information into digital content, such as make calls, get pictures or video to support a story, research and confirm information, etc.
- Coordinates newsgathering operations including dispatching crews and incoming content intake/distribution.
- Work with urgency to publish and broadcast breaking news and update as needed.
- Monitor social *** for breaking news, find interesting stories, track trends and report findings to newsroom.
- Oversees live shots including IFB / frame syncs coordinate and tune-in.
- Liaison *** ween the station and crews in the field / other news outlets / public officials / closed captioning.
- Contributes to editorial meetings and conversations, including pitching stories
- Collaborate with other *** stations, *** affiliates and other partners to search trending content and publish compelling stories, photos and video from our corporate network across web, mobile and social *** platforms.
- Track competition's newscasts, push alerts and website content.
Requirements: - Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field.
- Applicants must have previous experience writing news content for the web and will be expected to turn in a portfolio of previous digital news writing work upon request.
- Applicants must pass a writing and copyediting test.
