Lead Editor

Washington, DC

Corporate

Starts Oct 01

For 4 Month(s)

  • Job Requirements: Must be local to location (or willing to work as a local).

An advocacy and lobbying organization with a focus on foreign affairs and national headquarters offices in Washington, DC is looking to engage a skilled and experienced Video Editor in a four-month-long, full-time, temporary assignment starting in late September or October.

We expect the person in this role to work 40 hours/week during typical business hours. Additionally, we anticipate there will be the need for some work to be done over the weekend one or two weekends each month.

The client organization's permanent staff is expected to return to on-site work starting in October. So this will likely be a remote position initially, and then it will become an on-site role. The organization's offices are located within a short walk of several Metrorail (including Union Station) and Metrobus stops and there are multiple parking lots and garages nearby.

There is the potential for the assignment to be extended (if all parties are interested in an extension), possibly far into 2022. The possibility of a transition to a salaried, staff position with the organization exists as well.

Brainstorm Creative Resources is recruiting for this position at the request of the hiring organization -- a group we have supported on an annual basis, on a wide variety of hiring efforts for more than a decade. We typically post salary and rate ranges in public-facing job descriptions (see below), but we do not typically include employer names. If you are interested in applying for this position, we hope you will allow us to represent you, rather than working independently to identify the hiring organization so that you can inquire with them directly.

OVERVIEW:
The Video Editor works with in-house producers to create powerful, emotional, succinct and effective videos that support this organization's mission. This position develops video content for events, social media, the organization's app, web and email, including stories related to return-on-investment, political, educational, inspirational, marketing and recruitment. The Video Editor works closely with creative producers, editors, outside facilities companies, project managers and supervisor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* First line of quality control on all videos.
* Edit polished, short-form documentary video under supervision of producers and creative directors.
* Collaborate with producers and clients during post production, carrying out producer’s vision while adding ideas and notes throughout the process.
* Work with producers and clients to identify holes in scripts and rough cuts; work with producers to find new interview sound bites from transcripts.
* Edit recorded events into chapters; upload and share individual speeches and videos from national events.
* Responsible for the open or closed captioning of videos.
* When needed, perform light Assistant Editor duties such as logging and tagging footage.
* Maintain knowledge of the organization's video database, bringing archival footage into current projects.
* Work within the organization's pipeline of ingesting, processing, tagging in internal digital asset management system, archiving and coding incoming footage and other assets.

EXPECTED SKILLS:
* Highly skilled in Adobe Premiere and other Creative Suite applications.
* Experience producing content on a wide variety of subject matters -- examples: political, educational, documentary, inspirational pieces.
* Motion graphics and design experience a plus.
* Expert knowledge of post-production pipelines and multi-format deliveries, having worked in post-production for at least three years.
* Work independently as well as within teams, able to decipher problems and create solutions.
* Self-driven and able to complete tasks with minimal guidance if necessary.
* Experience working with Vidyard a plus.
* Familiarity working with transcripts and interview-driven content.
* Excellent communication/people skills.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Ability to multitask and work well under deadlines.

HOURS / LOCATION:
We are only interested in receiving applications and inquiries from individuals who can work:
(1) 40 hours/week during regular business hours;
(2) with an interest in and some availability for weekend work;
(3) remotely at first and then on-site, likely at some point in October;
(4) continuing for at least four months.

PAY RATE:
Based on conversations we have had with our client, Brainstorm Creative Resources has determined a weekly pay rate range of $2200 to $2750. (Annualized equivalent salaries that correspond to this weekly rate range are $110,000 to $137,500.)

Brainstorm Creative Resources pays competitively and actively encourages our employer clients to do the same. However, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will be able to pay less experienced applicants at the top of the stated salary range. Highly experienced applicants can expect that we will make a strong, evidentiary case to our client, to pay you at the top of the range.

The actual rate and/or salary offered will be commensurate with experience and market norms. It will also be based on some or all of the following factors: credentials as detailed in your resume, your portfolio, interview experiences with Brainstorm Creative Resources and our client, and quality of reference providers and references provided.

APPLICATION:
Brainstorm Creative Resources is a recruiting and staffing firm that has focused on placing creative and editorial professionals into freelance and full-time positions with Washington, DC-area employers since 2003. We are recruiting for this position at the request of our client, the hiring organization.

We encourage all interested parties to support their application and salary request with a cover letter that clearly indicates their fitness for the position. Cover letters aren't necessary, but good ones go a long way toward helping us understand exactly why you're a great fit for our open position. Applicants who inquire without a resume and/or work samples should not expect to receive a response. Brainstorm Creative Resources and the hiring organization are EEO employers.
