Title: Social Video Maker/Curator
Edutopia, the influential publisher of videos and stories about what works in education, is seeking a video creative to work with us on short-form and social media videos.

We’re on the hunt for a freelancer who can regularly plug in to our small group of filmmakers to:

1. Develop and create (mostly) vertical reels and shorts: tabletop, archival/stock/repurposed footage with graphics, and other fresh formats we haven’t thought of yet;

2. Curate reels and shorts made by classroom teachers, combing through Instagram for compelling and useful content for our audience of preK-12 educators.

Must live and breathe short vertical formats, be extremely comfortable with scrappy one-person production yet have a strong sense of art direction, and possess a talent for pitching, writing, and identifying relevant micro-content hidden in our other work.

Experience editing vertical video both in-platform (Instagram, for example) or out-of-platform (Capcut, for example) as well as phone shooting is essential. Aesthetically pleasing handwriting, good sketching ability, and knowledge of the preK-12 education space are pluses. Must also have the patience and diligence for video curation and willingness to dig deep for the gold.

What more you should know:
Our range for this remote role is $45-$70/hour depending on location, experience, and skill level. Weekly hours are negotiable.

Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Junior Producer for our unscripted television projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment. This role will involve assisting in all aspects of production, from pre-production planning to post-production support on various projects. Travel to locations as needed. 4 days in the LA office.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in Pre-production Planning: Collaborate with the production team to research topics, develop story ideas, and contribute to the overall concept for the show.

Casting Assistance: Assist in the casting process by identifying potential participants, conducting interviews, and helping to select the final cast members.

Contribute to Scripting and Outline/Deck Creation: Assist in drafting outlines, segment ideas, and interview questions to ensure that the production stays on track.

Conduct Interviews and Research: Conduct interviews with participants, as well as research background information to support the storytelling aspect of the show.

Production: Ability to go on shoots and manage the camera teams/AP's etc.

Assist in Post-production: Review footage, provide feedback on edits, and coordinate any additional filming that may be necessary.

Problem-Solving: Be resourceful and quick-thinking to address any challenges or unexpected issues that arise during production.

Collaborate with the Production Team: Work closely with producers, directors, editors, and crew members to ensure that the vision for the show is executed effectively.

What You'll Do:

As the Executive Producer in the Physical Production Department, you will supervise and mentor other members of the production team and serve as the client facing point of contact on projects of all types/budget sizes. Reporting into the Director of Production Operations, you’ll help establish and define production processes that will be followed by the entire team. And, as a senior member of the Production team, you’ll maintain communication with key internal and external stakeholders across Legal, Creative, Editorial, Finance, and Account teams.

In This Role We Expect You To:

Manage, train, and mentor a team of Producers
Build strong, trusting relationships with clients
Ensure department-wide budget efficiency
Assist with the creation of department-wide processes and procedures
Act as Production Lead for all types of projects (typically those that require travel and have budgets of $200K+)
Create, manage, and review financial trackers, production budgets, call sheets, and shoot schedules
Track Cost Reports and manage Close Outs
Approve project POs, payroll, time cards, and payment requests, as well as review vendor agreements
Negotiate rates and production costs
Responsible for the completion of contracts, permissions, permits, COIs, releases, and risk assessments
Manage and hire crew members, extras & third-party production companies/vendors for new productions
Manage production travel logistics when necessary
Work closely and collaboratively with inter-company departments
Oversee department-wide productivity, goals, timelines, and budgets through post/delivery
Regularly track progress against departmental goals
Manage individual contributors (of all levels)
Manage up and across the organization
Plan and operationalize innovative ideas. Facilitate brainstorms and begin to reflect on implications for ideas as we think long-term and/or scale the business

Who You Are:

15+ years of relevant work experience (5 years of agency work)
Must have a very deep understanding of budgeting, scheduling, and close outs
Must be comfortable working in Movie Magic Budgeting
Must have a strong grasp on crew department head roles and above/below-the-line positions
Must have experience managing and delegating to both Freelance and Staff direct reports
Understand the mechanics of how production at a digital production studio is run, including experience with digital media workflows and post-production
Experience with Guild Guidelines including; DGA, SAG/AFTRA, WGA preferred
Experience working and interfacing with Clients as it pertains to the Production process
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, prioritize and problem-solve
Should be able to communicate effectively in-person, via email, and on the telephone
Familiarity with the digital video and social media landscape
Must have the ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information, as well as the ability to work independently, efficiently, and able to meet deadlines
Well-versed in production gear and techniques necessary to make digital, social video
Unflappable, positive attitude, providing calm in every potential storm

Compensation:

This position has an estimated annual salary range of $130,000-$150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors. We welcome direct conversations with each candidate about compensation in all of our initial calls.

This position must be based in Los Angeles. This will be a hybrid role with a minimum three days in office.

I need of a 4 man team to capture live event footage for a large live music event in partnership with a large brand.

In need of 4 man crew
- Producer / Director ( to wrangle and direct the action)
- 2 x iPhone shooters (likely shooting on gimbals)
