Producer

Los Angeles, CA

Film (Feature-length)

Starts Jun 05

Full Time

  • Job Requirements: Must be local to location (or willing to work as a local).
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Are you an extremely seasoned Producer, Showrunner, or Production Executive in *SCRIPTED* feature films or episodic television?
    • Do your skills as a Producer/Showrunner encompass both creative and budgetary, and are you an expert at Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling?
    • Are you okay with Realm being Christian-led, producing a wide array of content yet not content that would be inconsistent with traditional Judeo-Christian values?
    • Are you willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations?

This job post is only for extremely seasoned SCRIPTED Lead Producers, Line Producers, Showrunners, and Production Executives. Reality, documentary, commercial, music video, sports, news, industrial, or short film applicants will not be considered.

Please note that this position requires working exclusively for Realm alone. Any involvement in projects not on Realm's slate, as well as any industry-related freelance work, would be required to be discontinued

Please note that as part of this application process, you will be asked to email a cover letter introducing yourself to the company (see questions below).

Realm Studios (rebranding from Realm Pictures International) is a startup motion picture studio gearing up to produce blockbuster theatrical entertainment while breaking brilliant above- and below-the-line talent. (Please note that Realm’s focus at this time is exclusively theatrical features.) Realm’s financing will fund the Development and Production of a sizable slate of features, and we are now in the process of creating these departments.

Although not a traditional faith-based company, and although we will be producing mainstream secular features of a wide array of genres and maturity levels, Realm is openly Christian-led, and its content will be consistent with what might be broadly regarded as traditional Judeo-Christian values. (That said, in hiring, Realm will never discriminate based on race, religion, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation.) In addition, Realm will not be producing gratuitously sexual, violent, or profane content, but rather focus on themes of hope, humanity, heroism, and redemption.

As we currently create our Development department, whose work will be to acquire and build out a large catalog of properties for production, we are now interviewing to hire an in-house Producer.

Realm's production model is the producer-driven studio system in which the Producer is the chief creative and managerial force shepherding and shaping the picture, to whom the writer, director, line producer, and all other department heads answer. The specific model for this role is the late great Irving Thalberg, the authoritative head of production for M-G-M from 1925 to 1936, who personally oversaw and groomed virtually every picture produced by M-G-M during that time.

In short, Realm's in-house Producer will both creatively and budgetarily oversee the entire preproduction and production of our films. Again, this role will be both highly creative and highly budgetary - you must be just as masterful and insightful at assessing directors' and DP's and editors' showreels as you are critically evaluating Movie Magic budgets and schedules.

This will be a position of significant authority and responsibility. On the creative side, you will be deeply immersed in viewing showreels and choosing writers and directors for Realm's films, and collaborating with directors in casting, crewing, scoring, and editing. Yet though you be supportive of the director's vision and enable him/her in any way possible, per the studio system, final decisions will rest not with the director but with you.

On the business side, you'll:
* Develop preliminary budgets and revenue projections (profit/loss analytics) for IP that has been targeted for development
* Create formal budgets and schedules for greenlit projects
* Vet and select strong line producers for each project
* Negotiate vendor, client, and artist agreements
* Track and manage all aspects of production management and cost reporting across all projects
* Manage and approve production and post schedules in accordance with approved budgets and delivery deadlines
* Manage tax incentives for each project
* Provide leadership and guidance from preproduction through post
* Travel to set when necessary to evaluate workflow, budgets and potential problems
* Foster a positive culture of family and teamwork

Of course, you'll have assistance.

Professional Qualifications:
* Expertise in complex physical production
* Mastery of Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling
* Ability to thrive while simultaneously managing multiple highly complex, large-scale projects
* Able to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends, as needed
* Experience with unions and guilds

Commitment, passion, and drive are essential for this position. We’re looking for:

A relentless results-driven leader
An unwavering commitment to excellence - we want every single picture without exception to be artistically extraordinary and commercially successful
A think-out-of-the-box idea innovator that doesn’t wait for solutions but forges them
Honesty, integrity, and reliability

Fasten your seat belt – this will be highly challenging but richly rewarding work. Because we’re a startup studio looking to move mountains, the work will be high-volume and high-velocity. But in joining Realm, you'll be joining family. Our culture is one of warmth, kindness, and support - we laugh a lot and have a great time along the way.

Please note that we are presently determining whether this will be a fully in-person, remote, or hybrid position.

Compensation will be discussed in meetings.

We look forward to meeting you!

Don't stop now... keep hunting!
