The 2022–23 season marks a new chapter in the life of America’s longest living orchestra with the opening of the reimagined David Geffen Hall and programming that engages with today’s cultural conversations through explorations of HOME, LIBERATION, SPIRIT, and EARTH, in addition to the premieres of 16 works. This marks the return from the pandemic, when the NY Phil launched NY Phil Bandwagon, presenting free performances across the city, and 2021–22 concerts at other New York City venues.
The New York Philharmonic is seeking two Production Assistants to work on the “Concerts in the Park” summer concert series, four concerts spanning June 13 – 16, 2023. This position will be a temporary full-time employment, considered seasonal employment from April 24 to June 23.
Pre-production duties for both Production Assistants include:
• Pre-Production Work Hours generally 9am – 4pm, based at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center
• Administrative work, communicating with external NYC government agencies, vendors and crew to relay logistical information in a timely manner
• Assist in the NY Phil employee on-boarding for stagehands, audio crew, and security staff.
• Accompany Production Coordinator to on-site visits and keeping notes
• Develop and maintain production documents and tour books, order supplies, run errands, manage petty cash
• Learning project details, scope of work, setup and breakdown of the 4 event sites, and the concert operations of the event week.
During the event week, tour duties are split between 2 positions—a Morning PA and an Evening PA.
Primary responsibilities for Morning PA include:
• Starting May 30 and through event week, Morning PA Work Hours generally 5:00am – 1:00pm (On-Site)
• Must be able to work early morning hours
• On-site NY Philharmonic Production support at the load-in, AM shift activities, and load-out of all Concerts in the Parks work sites: 1 technical work site in East Rutherford, NJ; and all 4 NYC Parks concert venues in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn.
• Managing vendors; purchasing, setting up, and breaking down crew hospitality, purchasing hardware and other supplies as needed
• Communicating with the Production Coordinator, Crew Heads and rest of the production team to ensure a seamless event
• Other Duties as assigned
Primary responsibilities for Evening PA include:
• During event week (4 concerts), Evening PA Work Hours generally 12:00pm – 2:00am
• Must be able to work afternoon and night hours, through post-concert
• Purchasing, setting up, and breaking down backstage hospitality for crew, musicians and special guests
• Running errands, arranging stage crew meals, program distribution, and other tasks as needed
• Onsite during performances, this position works closely with the Production Coordinator and staff to facilitate a successful event, managing vendors, setting/up breaking down crew/talent hospitality etc.
• Other Duties as assigned
Requirements:
Candidates should have backstage experience, be physically able to work outdoors for extended periods of time, lift objects up to 40lbs and be able to work independently. Ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple tasks at once is essential.
MUST have a valid, clean driving license (not negotiable) and be able to drive in NYC and New Jersey.
Preferred Knowledge:
Experience with event production for outdoor concerts, events, or festivals
Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED
