Manager, Sustainable Production
Location: LA-CA, ATL or New York, NY
The Sustainable Production Manager will support ViacomCBS’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and program development by focusing on production through an ESG lens.
This will be a full-time role. The position will report to both the Director of ESG Strategy and the VP of Production Management Operations.
Core to the ESG team’s work is drafting ESG guidelines and policies that will apply companywide as well as to specific areas of our business. The Manager will be instrumental in drafting and executing these documents that are specific to responsible, sustainable, and/or “green” production. A priority will be developing and executing a strategy for elevating all productions across ViacomCBS to begin to set an industry standard in sustainable production practices.
The scope of this role will be companywide and across all types of production, from television to short form to features. There may be travel associated with the role.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop key material metrics for assessing the environmental and social sustainability of a production
• Lead our efforts in production in the areas of energy management, site utilities, and on-set sustainability programs
• Develop and manage a process for productions to report against these metrics
• Provide assessments of sustainable production practices and data to the ESG Director on a regular basis
• Spearhead ESG data collection efforts for productions; develop energy and utility management dashboards or other reporting structures for productions that are aligned with ViacomCBS’s ESG reporting priorities
• Create educational tools and lead education of production teams on sustainable production guidelines, reporting, and priorities
• Develop system for prioritizing and evaluating productions, in partnership with ESG Director
• Help align companywide ESG efforts with Production team goals, strategic, and functional business priorities
• Support the Director of ESG Strategy with research and analyses
• Manage special projects connected to our ESG priority areas, particularly “Sustainable Production and Operations”
Experience and Skills Required
• Bachelor’s degree; preferred sustainability, ESG focus/concentration
• Advanced coursework in sustainability or ESG preferred
• Creative, strategic thinker, curious learner, and problem solver
• Professional experience in production
• Strong understanding of the principles of environmental responsibility, including energy and water use, waste generation, recycling, building management, fleet management, and more
• Strong writer, detail-oriented proofreader and copy editor
• Strong data analysis and analytical skills, especially with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
• Demonstrated ability to work with others, lead teams, and build capacity
• Outstanding written and verbal oral communication with strong business acumen
• High degree of emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate a matrixed global organization
