Spotted Fawn Productions (SFP) is an independent and Indigenous-led stop motion animation studio in Vancouver, BC., seeking extremely innovative thinkers who have experience and skills related to the multifaceted medium of stop-motion animation. SFP is starting a new production co-produced with the National Film Board of Canada titled Wheetago War- a stop motion animated short film based on a short story from Richard Van Camp and directed by Amanda Strong.
Post-apocalyptic earth is ruled by the Wheetago, the dark spirit of greed which can turn humans and animals into horned merciless monsters, waging a war against the last remaining protectors of magic.
We are seeking an experienced Stop Motion Sets/Props/Puppets Fabrication Assistant for a full-time, contract position beginning in November 2021 until Summer 2022.
The ideal candidate must have:
-Experience in live action/stop motion film fabrication departments, or similar experience with an emphasis on miniatures and/or scale models;
-Good knowledge of a wide variety of materials and techniques;
-Knowledge of a variety of paint, painted texture and painting techniques a plus;
-A variety of skills in woodworking, sculpting and general carpentry/painting tasks;
-Understanding of work in a high-energy, fast-paced film environment.
As part of the Fabrication team you will:
-Work to a specific scale, solve any issues that may arise, have a keen eye for detail. The sets and props must be stable, built with accuracy and stand up to heavy use;
-Construct under tight deadlines set by supervisors whilst maintaining a very high standard of fabrication;
-Work as part of a team and be able to adapt based on creative feedback;
-Use a wide range of tools and materials proficiently and adhere to safety standards.
