We consider our crew to be the best of the best in the business! Here at Groove, we travel around the country hosting extremely professional dance events while maintaining our vision: to create a positive, fun and memorable experience for all dancers, instructors and families alike. Our crew is what makes our events so successful. Here at Groove we have several job opportunities within our crew. We have three backstage positions that are available, each description is listed below.

Stage Manager - If you enjoy being around dancers and studio directors while running a show, this job is for you! You are who our competitors have the most contact with during each event. You have a unique opportunity to leave a lasting impression on them. It will be your responsibility to take the time to talk with them, develop relationships and most importantly have fun with them backstage. At the same time, you are in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly and on-time. Our stage manager is the brains behind the operation. You want to minimize dead time, i.e. the time between dances. Running on-time is one of the most important parts of running a good competition and this responsibility is all on the stage manager. The stage manager will work in tandem with the assistant stage manager, as well as the stage runner. You will check in each entry, as they arrive backstage and work with the scorekeeper in keeping a queue of entries to take the stage. The entire stage crew will enter each dressing room in the beginning of each day to introduce themselves to the dancers, parents, and studio staff, as well as give them any information they may need. Each crew member at Groove is also responsible for contributing to social media, such as taking pictures of special moments backstage, on stage, etc. from their unique perspective during the event.

Assistant Stage Manager - The assistant stage manager is in charge of lining up dances. As a guideline, the assistant stage manager should always have at least five routines lined up and ready to perform. It is their responsibility to make sure that every member of each routine is present, to coordinate props and prop handlers and to keep the wings clear of pretty much everything. The assistant stage manager should also be ready to help the stage manager with clearing the stage and watching for problems.

Stage Runner - The stage runner is in charge of going into the dressing rooms and checking on the dancers/studios directors. It is very important that the stage runner does not make the dancers feel rushed, but simply check on the status of their changing and if their entire group is present and ready to perform. You also want to be aware of your surroundings and make sure there is no animosity going on in the dressing room area. From there you will inform the Assistant Stage Manager on who will be coming backstage so that they can prepare the order of performances.
