This Writer will work as part of a team responsible for dozens of daily news stories.

You will be offered one of the following shifts:

Monday - Friday from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM, ET (First weekly shift begins at 9:30 PM, ET on Monday; last weekly shift ends at 6:30 AM, ET on Saturday.)

Saturday - Wednesday from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM, ET (First weekly shift begins at 9:30 PM, ET on Saturday; last weekly shift ends at 6:30 AM, ET on Thursday.)

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Take ownership of your stories on the *** News EDGE overnight block, a rundown of stories local *** affiliates across the nation rely upon to fill their local newscasts
Work with a team of writers and producers by pitching, researching, and writing stories that will be seen coast-to-coast
Become an expert on your topics and write clear, concise scripts that tell compelling stories
Write VOs and VOSOTs and can be trained to occasionally write and produce packages as needed

Your New Role...

The Writer will be responsible for crafting various types of news stories, including voiceovers, package tosses, opens and teases. The Job

Breaking news coverage is at the heart of what *** does, and this role is critical to keeping our digital audience up to speed on the latest developments from the White House and the campaign trail. This writer will cover some of the biggest stories of the day, collaborating with correspondents and teams in the field as well as being the lead writer on breaking news from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. or from our Washington bureau.

The Daily

This position is primarily a breaking news role, anchoring digital coverage with opportunities to develop quick-turn enterprise and sourced reporting. Day to day:

You'll be writing politics breaking news pieces.
You'll pitch stories and collaborate with team members on daily news priorities.
You'll work quickly to familiarize yourself with the major players, policies and key news lines in any breaking story.
You'll find opportunities to own coverage areas and develop distinctive enterprise stories.

The Essentials

2+ years of digital storytelling experience and a college degree or equivalent.
Willingness to work nights and weekends to accommodate news events.
Ability to work quickly under pressure and experience handling breaking news stories is a must.
Skill in writing headlines and a sharp, precise paragraph that captures the essence of the story.
Strong communication skills and a desire to collaborate. We are a truly cross-functional team that works with nearly every desk and department across teams and bureaus.

This position is required to work in person at one of our locations in the United States. *** *** requires anyone working in our workplaces in the U.S. to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
