THE ROLE: Global Technical Evaluation Technician
A+E’s Global Acquisitions and Technical Operations team is a community of collaborative post-production and media operation professionals. Together, we oversee the delivery, technical evaluation, and QC process for over 300 program masters each month along with short form, podcasts, and international programming across A+E’s entire brand portfolio. The team also consults with our production partners on post-production best practices and technical workflows.

This Technician will be responsible for performing Global Technical Evaluation of assigned A+E Network long form and short form programs. The Technician will uphold specs and standard operating procedures that adhere to the US and Global requirements. This includes all English language content delivered for both domestic and worldwide distribution, as well as A+E owned foreign language productions, and acquired programming intended for domestic distribution only.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Perform global technical evaluations of A+E long and short form programming in both a remote environment, as well as on prem when needed. On prem the individual will use Adobe Premiere with SDVI integration, Baton Auto QC, IPV, Wohlers, vectorscopes and waveform monitors. Remotely, the technician will also use Adobe Premiere with SDVI, along with Scopebox soft scopes, and Adobe Audition. Familiarity with these systems is a plus. The tech will use these systems to evaluate and ensures all programs meet A+E global technical standards.
• Review and monitor all audio tracks to make sure they meet Global standards. Must have solid understanding of Full Mix, M&E and split audio. 5.1 knowledge a plus.
• Perform a technical evaluation on all re-deliveries to confirm all fixes were properly made.
• Proactively troubleshoot video and audio issues and persistently apply industry knowledge to meet high technical standards.
• Communicate with scheduling, captioning and network managers regarding specific program status as required.
• Maintain an appropriate remote workspace that allows for maximum attention and concentration on required content, along with a robust internet connection capable of downloading large files at fast speeds.
• Attend QC dept. meetings and follow all procedures as assigned.

YOUR STORY:
The ideal candidate is a critical thinker and a proactive problem-solver. You are highly proficient in all aspects of 4k & HD Video and audio production and technical specifications with an excellent understanding of video levels, audio meters and all technical specs as needed. You have knowledge of post-production processes and file formats, giving you an understanding of technical requirements and distribution workflows. Proactive work ethic while maintaining a keen focus on accuracy in a detailed oriented workflow a must, a positive attitude with a desire to excel in a team-oriented culture and a passion for new technology.
A strong technical understanding of broadcast quality production, editing and mastering is required, including standards conversion, video compression and best practices for handling HD footage during postproduction in both tape and file-based workflows. Firm comprehension of audio mixing and stem creation is required. Knowledge of 4K formats and processing a plus
Management of schedule and ability to prioritize deadlines and workload is critical. This ensures individuals are notified promptly and accordingly on status of shows and media as well as made aware of any necessary changes to current workload.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience working Tech Eval/QC, post-production, production services, media supply chain and/or digital distribution.
• A strong technical understanding of broadcast quality production, firm comprehension of audio mixing and stem creation is required.
• Must be well versed in multiple frame rates, file resolutions and codecs.
• Must have an excellent understanding of waveform monitors, vectorscopes, audio meters and all technical specs as needed. Knowledge of NLE softscopes and/or Scopebox a plus.
• Self-motivated to achieve goals, highly collaborative, resourceful with proven ability to work proactively, independently under tight timeframes in a fast-paced, growth environment.

Essential Functions

Set up an operate equipment such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting and sound mixing equipment.
Record meetings and presentations with video cameras, operate spotlights, adjust amplifiers and other technical support.
Provide technical support for live meetings, presentations, conferences, teleconferences, webinars and distance learning classes including coordination of graphics and connectivity.
Work closely with *** executives and Board Members as well as with the Corporate Communications team on all events including executive meetings and conferences, celebrity and corporate events.

*** network-owned and operated local station is looking for a motivated individual to work in a team environment to realize multiple ongoing technical projects and assist in maintaining the technical facilities at our *** in downtown San Francisco as well as our transmitters at Sutro Tower and remote ENG locations. Applicants should have at least two (2) years of direct, hands-on experience in television broadcast, production, and IT network equipment integration and maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Local Union represented Broadcast Engineers take direction from the Engineering Management Team to implement a variety of capital projects, as well as maintain and resolve issues with equipment throughout the studio plant and remote RF sites.
The position requires an engineer with a positive demeanor and the ability to react well to changing conditions that are present in a 24/7/365 broadcast facility. Experience installing, configuring, and fixing studio equipment from a range of manufacturers (e.g. Sony, Grass Valley, Pesa, Evertz, Calrec, Ross, Dell, and others) is helpful and applicants' references to specific major broadcast systems should be provided.
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and/or step stools to maintain equipment.
Computer proficiency in MS Windows including MS Office, Outlook, and Visio. Solid understanding of IP networking, file system infrastructure, software installation/update practices, and experience using FTP, telnet, and terminal applications with serial interfaces.
Basic knowledge of navigating Mac OS X including application installation, file system basics, and network configuration.
Solid grasp of RF fundamentals: 2-way, cellular, point-to-point microwave, and wireless networking systems.
Proficient in handling test equipment: spectrum analyzers, Bitstream analyzers, oscilloscopes, and digital multi-meters.
Cable fabrication and termination experience.
Experience with ENG vehicle maintenance: hydraulic masts, D-TEC II safety systems, generators, DC power systems, and general automotive maintenance.
Understanding of SD/HD digital video, signal routing, and processing equipment.
Experience with satellite downlinks and configuring digital IRDs.
Understanding of the major digital video file formats, their chief characteristics, common format containers, and metadata usage.
Fluent understanding and the ability to read wiring diagrams, flowcharts, and schematics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Solid understanding and experience working with high-power RF television transmitters.
Vendor transmitter training is a plus.
CAD drawing and editing experience with AutoCAD and/or Visio.
Single and multi-mode fiber optic cable splicing and terminating experience.
In-depth knowledge of broadcast standards and PSIP fundamentals.
Direct experience working with Harmonic Electra encoders.
Direct experience working on Gates ULXTE & Diamond digital transmitters.
Experience configuring workflows in Telestream Vantage.
Experience working in MS-DOS, Unix, and Linux command-line and GUI-based systems.
College degree preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $70,000.00 - 80,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
