Havoc Robotics is a content and entertainment company focused on combat robotics currently centered around a series of seven tournaments hosted in Norwalk, CT, and streamed live to a virtual audience through YouTube and other platforms. The league was launched in late 2018 as a small, grassroots tournament with 13 robots, and has since grown exponentially - we’ve hosted 850 robots across 22 events, each designed and built by a diverse, highly engaged community. Upward of 350 spectators attend each of our events at our HQ in Norwalk, CT, in addition to an online following and highly engaged livestream audience in the tens of thousands.
We are looking for a Broadcast Production Engineer to provide support and maintenance to our high-end infrastructure of broadcast/livestream systems. This is a great position for someone with a background in electrical engineering looking for a junior-level position, who is eager to learn and expand their skill-set in a hands-on role, open to a non-traditional/flexible schedule (including some scheduled late-night or weekend work), and able to work 90% of the time from our HQ in Norwalk, CT.
Responsibilities:
- Support infrastructure for on-air broadcast production systems
- Support Live Control Room production systems and subsystems
- Support infrastructure systems including routers, intercom, monitoring, audio suites and other live production related gear
- Respond to, communicate, manage, and track technical issues as they arise, sometimes after hours or on weekends
- Perform maintenance of subsystems including software and hardware updates, modifications and replacements as warranted
- Implement and maintain process standards for deployment, and develop support documentation for operations personnel as needed
- Be part of a team that works hands-on with the latest generation of production systems and technologies
- Collaborate and share responsibilities effectively with a team of mechanical and software engineers.
Skills:
- You are comfortable with current media technologies, concepts and emerging trends (i.e Media over IP, Cloud Computing, etc.)
- You have a bachelor’s degree or professional/trade experience in electrical engineering or computer science
- Demonstrated working knowledge of IT / networking theory, topology, and best practices
- Ability to troubleshoot and replace computer hardware components and proprietary broadcast equipment
- Ability to interpret technical documentation standards including CAD-based workflow diagrams
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of a live production environment, including overtime as required

THE ROLE: Global Technical Evaluation Technician
A+E’s Global Acquisitions and Technical Operations team is a community of collaborative post-production and media operation professionals. Together, we oversee the delivery, technical evaluation, and QC process for over 300 program masters each month along with short form, podcasts, and international programming across A+E’s entire brand portfolio. The team also consults with our production partners on post-production best practices and technical workflows.
This Technician will be responsible for performing Global Technical Evaluation of assigned A+E Network long form and short form programs. The Technician will uphold specs and standard operating procedures that adhere to the US and Global requirements. This includes all English language content delivered for both domestic and worldwide distribution, as well as A+E owned foreign language productions, and acquired programming intended for domestic distribution only.
MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Perform global technical evaluations of A+E long and short form programming in both a remote environment, as well as on prem when needed. On prem the individual will use Adobe Premiere with SDVI integration, Baton Auto QC, IPV, Wohlers, vectorscopes and waveform monitors. Remotely, the technician will also use Adobe Premiere with SDVI, along with Scopebox soft scopes, and Adobe Audition. Familiarity with these systems is a plus. The tech will use these systems to evaluate and ensures all programs meet A+E global technical standards.
• Review and monitor all audio tracks to make sure they meet Global standards. Must have solid understanding of Full Mix, M&E and split audio. 5.1 knowledge a plus.
• Perform a technical evaluation on all re-deliveries to confirm all fixes were properly made.
• Proactively troubleshoot video and audio issues and persistently apply industry knowledge to meet high technical standards.
• Communicate with scheduling, captioning and network managers regarding specific program status as required.
• Maintain an appropriate remote workspace that allows for maximum attention and concentration on required content, along with a robust internet connection capable of downloading large files at fast speeds.
• Attend QC dept. meetings and follow all procedures as assigned.

YOUR STORY:
The ideal candidate is a critical thinker and a proactive problem-solver. Management of schedule and ability to prioritize deadlines and workload is critical. This ensures individuals are notified promptly and accordingly on status of shows and media as well as made aware of any necessary changes to current workload.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience working Tech Eval/QC, post-production, production services, media supply chain and/or digital distribution.
• A strong technical understanding of broadcast quality production, firm comprehension of audio mixing and stem creation is required.
• Must be well versed in multiple frame rates, file resolutions and codecs.
