Tony Award-winning production company, Apples and Oranges, seeks experienced videographers to join our National High School Musical Theatre Awards production team.
Better known as The Jimmy Awards, The National High School Musical Theatre Awards are a national celebration of outstanding student achievement, recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance, and acting performance and elevating the importance of theatre arts education in schools, presented by The Broadway League.
Apples and Oranges will produce all video coverage of the 8-day program documenting 96 nominees from around the country as they work with top musical theatre talent, guests and coaches to learn a full length show that will be presented to a panel of industry judges, and the general public, at The Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.
Videographers will capture everything from docu-reality style rehearsal footage to b-roll, traditional multi-cam and OTF interviews, speaker sessions and press coverage to create documentary style video packages that will play during the awards ceremony and beyond. Successful candidates should have experience working independently and as part of a team in a fast-moving, professional environment. Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work non-traditional shifts and extended hours (including evenings and weekends). Ability to shoot discreetly, capture fly-on-the-wall type coverage is essential and experience in musical theatre, dance or other performing arts rehearsal environment is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Creative videography/cinematography background with a good eye for movement and great visuals
• Experience in docu-reality style television or similar fast-moving, multi-cam production environment
• Ability to shoot on assignment, receive notes and direction from producers, editors and other stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of current camera systems and software including the Panasonic GH series
• Experience setting up multi-camera interviews, basic (2, 3-point) lighting
• Flexible schedule
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Passion for/experience working in musical theater and the performing arts
• Basic knowledge/understanding of single-system sound recording
• Major live event coverage experience (preferred but not necessary)
• Experience working within an educational environment/setting
