Job Summary/Description:
**** is seeking an Assignment Editor who owns breaking news and recognizes a good impactful news story. This person will work Monday-Friday on our assignment desk and work closely with the Managing Editor and the Digital Content Manager. This individual is a critical member of our newsroom whose responsibilities involve assigning crews, and reporters, and gathering information about developing news stories. This role is ideal for an experienced journalist who is passionate about delivering content on all platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Assign reporters, and photographers to cover stories
- Monitor social *** , police scanners, emails and cultivate news sources in search of potential news content
- Assist producers, reporters, and photographers with researching stories and gathering information
- Expedites the flow of information and content coming into the newsroom
- Works closely with digital and broadcast producers to ensure content is distributed quickly and appropriately on all platforms
- Must be able to react quickly to breaking news and communicate effectively with team members
- Set up and coordinate live reporting inside and outside the building
- Able to post digital content, supporting our digital producers
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in journalism
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently
- Strong writing, organizational, and people skills are vital
- Must be willing to work extended or modified shifts as news developments warrant
- MVR check required
- Assignment desk, field reporting and/or digital experience preferred
