Job Summary/Description:
**** is searching for a veteran sports journalist seeking to lead our coverage of high school, collegiate, and professional athletics in and around the Chattahoochee Valley. The Columbus, Georgia DMA includes nearby Auburn University and is home to many dedicated college sports fans. Our proximity to the adjacent Atlanta market also requires a candidate with experience in covering MLB, *** , NBA & MLS teams.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Sports anchoring for newscasts
- Organizing coverage for local and regional sports opportunities
- Utilizing digital platforms to break sports stories
The ideal candidate will interface with the **** managers to enhance and maximize our coverage opportunities
Furthermore, with a DMA covering counties in two states, a successful sports director will build strategies for effectively covering high school athletics in Alabama & Georgia.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred
- A minimum 2 years experience as a sports reporter or position in a similar field
- Demonstrated mastery of digital and social *** strategy
- Excellent time management skills and an ability to prioritize tasks and information under pressure are required
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must have scheduling flexibility
