Job Description

*** 'S *** McAllen News Internship provides students with real world experience and exposure to working in a top ten television market and in a high-energy newsroom. Interns may gain experience on the Assignment Desk, writing/producing, and/or with working on our digital platforms.

Successful interns will demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to step out of their comfort zone. We are looking for students who are highly motivated and who can function as a team member or independently in a fast-paced news environment.

Interns are introduced to every aspect of our news operation, within a structured and supervised environment. Local news interns spend time in each unit observing, learning, and participating.

During their rotation, interns will:

• Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editing.
• Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
• Shadow producers and assignment editors
• Handle daily office administration functions and assist on the assignment desk.
• Create individual special project opportunities.
• Interns should have some experience in journalism, at least in the classroom, but preferably in a television newsroom setting.
• Schedule requirements: Interns should be willing to work a variety of shifts in order to get the best experience.

Qualifications

• In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Must receive credit for internship.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish (written and verbal).
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by *** Universal.
• Need to be able to work on-site in McAllen,Texas

Job Description

*** Universal's Owned Television station in the McAllen, TX area, **** TV, is looking for a skilled Multiplatform Producer to help take our streaming content and newscasts to a new level. We're looking for someone who's passionate about news, loves breaking news and has a creative vision for crafting live programs. You'll work closely with managers to create innovative, up-to-the-minute content that resonates with our viewers. The ideal candidate loves to collaborate, wants to help lead a team, and is ready to take on new challenges to help us continue to grow. You'll work closely with our streaming products and help us continue to find new ways to reach our audience no matter what platform they are on. • Produce daily newscasts, live special coverage, and other programs for streaming platforms.
• Edit video as needed.
• Clearly communicate your vision to a team of writers, anchors and field crews in order to deliver dynamic and accurate stories and segments.
• Develop an understanding of our streaming and nonlinear products and consistently contribute to them
• Work closely with directors, editors, and graphics artists to enhance the production value of your newscast.
• Contribute story ideas and take charge of daily coverage decisions for your newscast.
• Quickly adjust to late changes and be aggressive in breaking news coverage.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a daily newscast producer.
• Proven track record of producing live events and newscasts.
• Intense familiarity and interest in current news events.
• Must have strong Spanish language skills (verbal & written).

• Experience segment producing and/or generating content across multiple platforms is a plus.

• Displays a positive work ethic and a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
• Ability to create urgent, engaging, and conversational news copy and visuals under tight deadlines
• Team player who is flexible and works well under pressure.
• Strong organizational and time management skills
