We are seeking a full-time News Editor to join the *** Digital team to edit DC and politics-related text stories for *** News.com and 538. It's a role that requires exceptional communication, attention to detail and grace under pressure.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Facilities Manager will oversee the overall facilities management, supporting production and administration. This position will have direct oversight of *** Universal's DC Bureau at 400 North Capitol St NE encompassing approximately 90K square feet and provide additional support of *** U's owned television station facility at 4001 Nebraska Avenue encompassing approximately 200K square feet of production, technical, and commercial office space. They will ensure the integrity and operation of the facilities critical infrastructure systems which are *** to our 24/7/365 operational reliability, where the goal is a 99.999% on-air performance. This position will oversee the physical building operations, inspections, maintenance and long-term strategy planning of capital projects. Additional responsibilities include, on site safety programs and related activities to maintain a best in class working environment for all employees and guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Achieve 100% uptime of site critical systems and equipment which include but are not limited to: Power/UPS, Back-up generator, Fuel supply, HVAC (Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning), BMS, Plumbing/Water supply, Fire life safety systems and equipment.
Lead the local EHS program and ensure that all emergency systems are tested regularly, inspected and in compliance with local and State laws.
Schedule and oversee facility preventative maintenance, testing, and operations programs.
Coordinate all OSHA requirements, submissions, and postings.
Manage the EPA inventory (hazardous chemicals) including submission of proper documentation.
Responsible for reporting on operating metrics and status updates with management to identify trends and/or operating issues, as well as efficiency opportunities.

Respond promptly to facility issues and requests reported by staff and/or clients.

Qualifications

This includes equipment transport, set-up, operation and breakdown and may also include truck maintenance. *** SNG trucks are multi-path mobile production platforms thus requiring one to be well versed in the operation and maintenance of on-board systems such as cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, RF and specialized transmission gear (MIMO, COFDM, bonded cellular).
Perform 24x7x365 broadcast technical support to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated streaming, audio and video remote broadcast production/television equipment. These include equipment at the DC Bureau and outside broadcast locations such as those on Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and others, and the ENG crew gear. Coordinate technical installation with vendors and/or production teams.

The Director of Technology will supervise and execute the installation, maintain and repair TV studio/transmitter equipment to maintain signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. Responsibilities also include maintenance of telecommunications equipment, computers, networking systems and integrating platforms for online content. The Director of Technology will work closely with all departments including News, Production, Promotions and Sales.

ABOUT YOU

The candidate will have many opportunities to learn and work on systems such as Ross Overdrive production systems and switchers and SSL audio consoles, related terminal gear and graphics equipment.

YOUR DAY-DAY

• Supports and maintains a top market news production operation.

• Maintains station operation through preventive and corrective maintenance.

• Supervision of engineering staff members and contractors as needed.

• Establishes and follows routine maintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment.

• Ensures station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal, laws.

• Performs necessary measurements of equipment performance.

• Installs and performs maintenance on control consoles, routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, control systems, remote equipment, etc.

• Provides maintenance and support of computer networks and related systems.

• Basic HVAC troubleshooting and operational maintenance, including water cooling systems.

• Coordinate with corporate engineering on emerging technologies, corporate initiatives, and implementation guidance.

YOU HAVE

• Requires a BSEE, BS-Information Technology/Computer Science or ASEE or equivalent relevant Broadcast Industry experience.

• Technical training or experience with a substantial record of successful work in Broadcast or directly related allied industries.

• FCC General Class License, SBE Certifications, Computer Networking certifications (Comp TIA+ or CCNA), and VMWare certification desired.

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting high power TV transmitters and antenna systems along with in-depth knowledge of ATSC encoding, modulation, and signal analysis methodologies.

• Experience supporting Live Television Production activities.

• A combination of ten (10) years of Television/Radio Broadcast engineering, hands-on experience including supervisory roles in a unionized or non-unionized environment. Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and excellent team leadership skills.

• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays on short notice as needed, and as part of on-call broadcast-critical escalation.

• A valid driver's license with a good driving record.

• Good understanding of applicable FCC rules and regulations

• Computer literacy in applicable software packages (Microsoft OS and Office Suite)

• Working knowledge of computer networking technology.

• Ability to troubleshoot broadcast equipment to the component level.

• Familiarity with Ross, SSL, VizRT and Weather Company software/hardware products a plus.

• Must be a team player willing to work with and accomplish repairs and assignments in a timely manner.

• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Knowledge of generators and UPS systems.

To maximize the impact of the show across all platforms, the EP will collaborate with colleagues across US Programming as well as digital, international, PR, sales and marketing. Individual will assume responsibility for short and long-term budget items.

Must be able to meet aggressive deadlines while completing high quality work. Will be agile and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment. Required to attend editorial planning calls twice daily and be on call given the news cycle.

Qualifications & Experience...

10+ years of editorial experience with 3 or more years in a leadership role in network and/or cable television
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience
