The MMJ will work with assignment editors, producers and news leadership to report on breaking news, enterprise stories and highly promotable news content specific to the region assigned.

Candidate must have a proven track record of strong storytelling skills, source-building, enterprise reporting, digging and handling breaking news. The right candidate will operate our of a bureau and work autonomously most of the time. Excellent time management skills are a must.

The MMJ role will be based in Prince George's County, a county in Maryland just over the Washington, DC border. The region is home to some of the best museums in the country from the Smithsonian to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to the National Archives. The MMJ produces, reports, writes, voices, and is capable of editing and feeding news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers.

Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details
Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly
Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas

Associate Bit Field Engineer

Operate a satellite truck and/or portable satellite, microwave and streaming equipment to provide multi-path transmissions (IP/Video/Audio) from outside broadcast locations. This includes equipment transport, set-up, operation and breakdown and may also include truck maintenance. *** SNG trucks are multi-path mobile production platforms thus requiring one to be well versed in the operation and maintenance of on-board systems such as cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, RF and specialized transmission gear (MIMO, COFDM, bonded cellular).

• Basic HVAC troubleshooting and operational maintenance, including water cooling systems.

YOU HAVE

• Requires a BSEE, BS-Information Technology/Computer Science or ASEE or equivalent relevant Broadcast Industry experience.

• Technical training or experience with a substantial record of successful work in Broadcast or directly related allied industries.

• FCC General Class License, SBE Certifications, Computer Networking certifications (Comp TIA+ or CCNA), and VMWare certification desired.

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting high power TV transmitters and antenna systems along with in-depth knowledge of ATSC encoding, modulation, and signal analysis methodologies.

• Experience supporting Live Television Production activities.

• A combination of ten (10) years of Television/Radio Broadcast engineering, hands-on experience including supervisory roles in a unionized or non-unionized environment. Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and excellent team leadership skills.

• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays on short notice as needed, and as part of on-call broadcast-critical escalation.

• A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
