Broadcast IT Engineer! This individual will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, and other equipment associated with television broadcasting. This includes server-based record and play-out systems, routing switchers, MPEG encoders, decoders, automation, news room computer systems, data networks, broadcast transmission equipment as well as business-side work stations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Maintain the station's network infrastructure, working closely with Sinclair corporate IT
- Provide support in the management of Servers, Network Security and Network Services
- PC/Mac hardware/software support of on-site installing, servicing and repairing workstations
- Provide support for the technical needs of the News Department
- Conduct Live Event site surveys
- Assist in Live Event productions
- Maintain and/or repair video equipment, satellite receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, routers, automation, intercoms and monitors
- Assist Engineering with Transmitter, Master Control and general building maintenance
- Assist with LAN and WAN related hardware and software maintenance
- Develop knowledge of facility specific IT needs and assist in supporting these systems
- Learn the responsibilities of a television station Chief Operator
- Maintain digital telephone system
- Assist with vehicle fleet maintenance such as identify problems and coordinate repairs
- Provide the engineering design and assist with the building and installation of electronic systems/equipment as assigned
- Maintain and repair transmitters (AM, FM, TV, Microwave, Fiber, satellite, etc.), receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, video tape systems, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms, two-way radios, monitors and display systems
- Provide budget information to support the implementation of new systems
- Provide technical support to operational users
- Consult and communicate with engineering management and other engineers on technical issues as required
- Provide specific engineering signal flow diagrams for CAD documentation on all work performed on technical systems
- Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices
Required Skills
Requirements: - Associates degree or higher in IT, electronics or computer related field preferred
- Availability to cover On-Call shifts
- A great team-oriented attitude and dedication to quality
- Strong familiarity with computer operating systems
- Knowledge and competency in core hardware and computer system technologies, including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and LAN/WAN networking
- Proficiency in troubleshooting problems and responding quickly under pressure
- Broadcast experience preferred OR Minimum of 5 years broadcast experience required
- Excellent communication skills
- Must have and maintain a good driving record and valid license
- Be able to work effectively with vendor support receiving and communicating instructions via telephone, e-mail, or in person
- Self-starter, able to work efficiently without direct supervision
- Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone or in person
- Able to set priorities under pressure of deadlines
- Hold a valid driver's license
- Must be flexible to accommodate shift changes including extended hours, weekends, and evenings
- Associate's degree (AA) in electronics preferred
- Working knowledge of broadcast station operations
- G.R.O.L. and or Amateur Radio background a plus.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: - Must be able to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and evenings
- Must be able to obtain D.O.T. medical certificate
- Ability to lift computers and equipment generally less than 50 pounds
