What you'll do:

Work with the Politics Editor to shape and lead our coverage of Texas politics and policy with an eagerness to jump on breaking news and the ability to shape enterprise and investigative work
You will craft and edit coverage through a wide range of story forms (quick-hits, explainers, live blogs, explainers, long-form storytelling)
Conceive of innovative ways to serve audiences, and serve as project manager for our major digital efforts, namely the Texas voter's guides for both the Chronicle and Express-News on major elections, and the bill trackers for both papers during legislative session
Coordinate with two newsrooms as our work is featured daily in both the Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News
Develop beat reporting that is audience-centered and cultivates sourcing, obtains public records and delivers scoops. Develop the talents of staffers, offering constructive criticism of their work and doing evaluations of reporters and editors

What will it take to be successful?

The politics of the nation's biggest red state are quick and forceful, and they demand editors who are equally speedy and decisive in coverage decisions.

Basic Qualifications:

Have at least 10 years of experience as a senior reporter and/or editor, preferably covering Texas state government, including strong understanding of open records laws
Be detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
Deeply understand journalism ethics and legal standards, and an openness to learn and adapt as language changes
Ability to translate complicated subjects into clear, conversational copy
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues in two newsrooms

Preferred Qualifications:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Finance & Facilities Assistant will work as part of a team to deliver professional, efficient & accurate support to the Facilities Department and to manage the finance aspect of the FM account, collate finance reports and allocate costs accordingly.

The main duties will include but are not limited to:

Finance

Support the Head of Facilities with the day-to-day Finance and Admin to ensure these are carried out in a manner consistent with *** policies & directives;
Ensure all invoices are processed timely and coded accurately;
Investigate missing invoices and chase suppliers;
Ensure Purchase orders are correctly raised in Oracle database and liaise with HSC to add new suppliers to PO Database;
Assist the Facilities team with purchasing & orders management (consumables & Stationary);
Process orders on the credit card, making sure requisitions are logged for expense approval;
Assist the Head of Facilities with the monthly settlement of the credit card purchases;
Be responsible for the Reconciliation of recharge control accounts on a monthly basis for Mail and travel invoices;
Assist the Head of Facilities with the yearly Budget setting and quarterly forecast updates;
Gather financial information that supports budget process and generation of management information and reports necessary for the development of capital budgets for the facility;
Liaise with Management Accounts or HSC in the US when needed;
Working with the Head of Facilities to ensure all costs are recorded and maintained in line with annual budgets;
Provide information to Management Accounts for month-end accruals.

Facilities

Provide admin support for the delivery of operational services to *** 's environment on a daily basis, taking responsibility for specific projects.
Assist with the reception desk during peak times and ad-hoc to cover the desk;
Lead the Office Space booking system by updating any changes including floor plans, and managing the desk booking email inbox;
Work effectively and efficiently with cross-functional teams to resolve issues;
Compilation and analyzing of data - Sustainability, Energy, Utilities;
Assist with general support to the FM team including meeting room management and minute-taking;
Assist with calendar management of the Head of Facilities;
Liaise with other *** locations to keep up-to-date records of information and documents;
Assist with H&S requirements (incl training) and workstation/DSE assessments including orders;

The award-winning Jacksonville Journal-Courier is a highly successful newspaper focused on providing Jacksonville, Ill., authentic community journalism. We are seeking a highly motivated assistant editor to join the newsroom that would be responsible for helping plan the contents of the publication, help supervise the work of the editorial department and oversee the publication production, as well as produce original content for the publication's print and digital products.

As an Assistant Editor for the newspaper, you can expect the following:

Prepare, rewrite, and edit copy to improve readability.
Create digital and print content considering the reader of audience appeal.
Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.
Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
Review and approve proofs submitted by reporters prior to publication production.
Assist editor with supervision and coordination work of the editorial department
Work with the Audience Development team to create digital content based on audience data.
Help the editor assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for coverage.
Confer with other departments and management regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories.

Qualification and Skills

Bachelor's degree
At least 2 years experience working in the field.
Knowledge both in maintaining and driving digital-first thinking in the newsroom to being able to study and determine trends based on analytics.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of *** production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual *** .
Knowledge and use of AP Style.
Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
Motivate, develop and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Manage one's own time and the time of others. Using a computer application to lay out pages, type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word-processing documents.
Requires meeting strict deadlines.
Knowledge of content management systems for both print and online.
