Your New Role

This position provides employment legal support and counseling for P&C and business leaders within *** Bros Discovery. The role is primarily focused on supporting WBD's news and sports business units and operations and may support other client groups and initiatives within the WBD's global corporate functions and departments. This role works closely with the broader internal employment legal team to provide day-to-day ad *** and subject matter expertise across the full range of employee relations and other labor and employment issues across the US. In consultation with the international employment legal team, this role manages global initiatives and issues, including agreements for on-air talent and other sophisticated contract matters. This role is the lead employment lawyer for the news and sports business units and manages a team of paralegal and attorney staff, providing day to day management and strategic direction and prioritization. This role interprets the latest employment legislation and case law into practical, straight forward language to deliver workable solutions in a fast paced, dynamic global business environment. Delivers training on key legal matters within client groups.

Your Role Accountabilities

• Ad *** and counseling on labor and employment matters

• Analyzes, drafts, negotiates and reviews a portfolio of several hundred complex executive and on-air talent agreements and provides legal support to WBD's contract administration team.

• Management of a team that includes a lawyer, paralegal and group executive assistant

• Support for corporate initiatives and projects as needed and assigned, including restructuring reviews, policies, and harmonization initiatives.

• Employment legal support for employment disputes and litigation, including administrative charges and arbitration proceedings

• Ad hoc ad *** on labor relations matters focused on labor relations in a non-union environment.

Qualifications & Experience

• 12 years of experience as a practicing labor and employment lawyer
• Experience in a global environment, preferably in ***
• Experience supervising or overseeing the work of other attorney(s)
• Juris Doctor
• Member of a state bar in good standing and eligible to practice as in-house counsel in New York
• Knowledge of labor and employment law and the legal environment of the *** industry sufficient to prepare legal documents, represent WBD in legal proceedings, and advise management
• Must be able to prepare, negotiate, and interpret complex agreements and other legal documents
• Must be able to research legal questions and to provide written and oral advice
• Must be able to supervise and evaluate legal, paralegal and administrative subordinates
• Knowledge of labor relations issues in the *** industry, particularly in unscripted/non union environments

The Legal Bits...
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of *** Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $196,000.00 - $364,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, *** Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.

Job Description

Production

The Production HR team provide HR expertise & business partnering to all International Film, TV & theatrical productions. Working as pro-active partners to the Production & assisting Head of Departments on Production. The Production HR partners attend Production sets and provide in-person ad *** & support. The team is also responsible in ensuring the Company RITW is booked and all crew are attending and adhering to the policy.

Key Responsibilities

Production HR

• Liaising and advising Production management on all HR activity throughout the Lifecyle of a Production
• Partner with UKProduction Companies, attending the offices and being responsive to employee questions
• Act as an advisor and counsel for everyone engaged on Productions
• Provide HR Support to freelancers as and when required
• Ensure RITW training is delivered to everyone working on Production. Managing the scheduling and updating attendance
• Lead on coordinating management training across the Production
• Manage the Production kick start meetings for each Production
• Manage multiple employee relations situations proactively, in confidence and within the company guidelines
• Note taking as required on cases being investigated by Senior HR Manager
• Where appropriate, lead on investigations into employee relations matters. Delivering in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy, working in partnership with Employment Law
• Actively seek and update with Employment Law
• Identify and work with Global Production HR on initiatives which support the changing nature of Production environments
• Attend Productions as and when required
• Participate in and support key HR initiatives such as performance management, succession planning & compensation planning for Production Company employees
• Maintain expertise in systems (SAP, myHR), processes, and security to enable accurate submissions and reporting
• Provide support to onboard, separate, and update employees in all applicable HR systems, as required including leavers
• Maintain and administer all transactions related to visa processing
• Work on special projects, as assigned
• Attend training seminars to keep up to date on employment case law, employee relations and Union involvement

Qualifications

• Previous experience in handling low level employee-relations matters which involve disciplinary action
• Able to quickly build rapport with others must be approachable and able to earn trust and credibility with employees in the organization
• Highly resourceful and organized with exceptional follow-through and attention to detail
• Experience of handling co *** ict and managing difficult employee relations situations to resolution
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Extremely flexible, highly organized, and able to easily shift priorities
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to i *** uence and engage with senior creative executives
• Possess a natural, yet professional ease at working with and relating to the needs of employees in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
• Ability to travel and attend Productions. There will be a requirement to travel to shoots in Europe on a frequent basis

Requirements

• Previous experience in working within an HR function
• Qualifications and training in HR desirable
