This is a part-time, temporary role on an as-needed basis.

About the opportunity:

The Jib Camera Operator will set up and operate all Jibs for studio productions. This can involve working with a variety of equipment, ranging from a small Jib arm to a 15-to-20-foot Jib.

Qualifications:

Required:
Experience working with studio level Jibs
Experience breaking down and rebuilding Jibs
Experience using 15 to 20 ft. Jibs

Preferred:
Experience using a VariZoom Jib/crane

Education & certification requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in TV, Media, or related field in camera and lighting operations.

Responsible for the building, operations and general maintenance of the Jib Camera. Operator must provide creative, fluid movement of the camera on multi-camera productions for News, Sports and Entertainment studio shows. The Camera Operator, Jib will report to the Production Operations Supervisor.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

Create smooth fluid movements of the camera to enhance the production value of each. program. Must be able to pan and tilt camera as well as swing the crane through space.
Maintain stable framing without extraneous movement on all axis.
Setup, balance, troubleshoot, and maintain crane and associated equipment.
Operator controls zoom and focus of lens. Good sense of visual composition.
Take direction well and work as a team player.
Operate in a safe and controlled manner to minimize injury to self or others as well as any damage to equipment or property.
Ability to follow a rundown.

YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)

Bachelor's Degree in television production or equivalent work experience.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems.
3-5 years of experience in control room broadcast facility.
Physical ability to swing and stop camera boom of up to 40 feet while carrying a camera. load of up to 45 pounds as well as the crane itself and the associated counterweights.
Perform well under pressure and breaking news situations.
Physical ability to lift equipment and counterweights up to 50 pounds.
Agility to move at a rapid pace as production needs may require
Provide creative input, e.g., assists the Director/ Producer in creating the look of a show, including set design; suggests alternate shots; etc.
Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
As this position supports 24x7 operation, candidate must, in addition to being able to work regular hours, have on-call availability, and flexibility to work days, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed and without advance notice. Additionally, candidate may be required to work on site for extended periods of time to provide coverage in special circumstances, such as, during tropical storm/hurricane.

Primary Responsibilities:

Act as a Director of Photography/Camera Operator, Editor, and Sound Mixer
Support all studio and set productions with freelance and staff crews, and production equipment
Act as a liaison *** ween freelance community, equipment rental/sales vendors, and ****-TV, ****-TV
Shoot and edit longer form segments for local content
Prepare equipment for next-day productions, and manage production gear that may need picked up and/or dropped off prior to and after productions
Retrieve all freelancer reports and submit to producer or director
Attend creative meetings *** ween producers and clients
Scout locations prior to productions
Basic maintenance of all production equipment - cameras, mics, lights, etc
Maintain production van including inspections, general service, cleaning, fueling, weekly visual inspections and parking
Manage production expendables inventories and order expendables as needed using accurate PO and management clearances. This will include the purchase of tape stock, gels, diffusions, lamps, gaffer's tape, black wrap, various studio grip supplies, camera/lens cleaning supplies etc.
Keep reports for all equipment sent out for repair

Additional Qualifications:

Basic working knowledge of the following: camera equipment, sound equipment and lighting/grip equipment; basic lighting with in-house lighting packages as well as rented inventory when needed; studio lighting controls and applications; steadicam, jib-arm/crane and dolly operation
Must work well with people and be a good communicator
Editing on Multi-Platform a plus (especially Final Cut X and Adobe Premiere Pro)
College degree preferred

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Support production staff with the coordination, creation, scheduling and distribution of all news marketing projects.

Research and disseminate ideas for project-related news topics and elements.

Job Description

Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming under supervision of Director and Operations management
Ability to proficiently operate Cammate Jib.
Hand-held camera experience preferred as dictated by productions demands
Assist in maintaining all studio cameras as well as the movement of all set pieces and props for the various shows
In coordination with the Director, create and offer visually interesting and varied subject shots
Willingness and ability to train others as needed for back-up purposes

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Communications) or equivalent work experience is required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in live, multi-camera studio production preferred, with related camera operator experience is required
Knowledge of Cammate, Jib along with Ikegami HD cameras is required
Ability to identify and trouble shoot mechanical issues with Jib equipment and set up
Must be able to lift 25+ lbs. depending on set / strike studio gear
