You will work with the Head of Legal and other colleagues in the Legal Counsel department to ensure *** businesses (the Group) operate in a legally compliant environment and the risks associated with the Group's commercial ventures are effectively managed. The Group businesses include: The National Magazine Company Limited, iCrossing Limited and CDS Global Limited, and from time-to-time *** 's European businesses and licensees.
Key duties:
- Drafting and managing the execution of commercial contracts and IP licenses across the Group.
- Negotiation on behalf of the respective companies within the Group in a wide range of commercial areas, particularly advertising, digital and data services, and ensure the same is recorded through accurate and clear contractual drafting.
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with clients within the Group and external ser *** providers.
- Identifying where legal processes and precedents should be implemented or improved within the Group to achieve greater efficiencies, *** ter organisation, and lower risks, and working to put in place the administration and organisation of such processes.
- Identifying training needs and delivering training to the business.
- General legal ad *** to the Group, including editorial matters, advertising, digital publishing, use of data, and ensuring the Group's brands' interests and commercial goals are protected.
- Editorial clearance, defamation, and privacy support. Management of editorial complaints in line with IPSO.
- Reacting to Group's commercial activities to comply with legislative and regulatory changes in England and Wales (and other territories where applicable).
- Advising on compliance with and the commercial application of data protection legislation, including GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Assist the Legal Counsel team to resolve legal claims, disputes and complaints relating to IP and contractual matters, including instructing external counsel where required.
- Management of the levels of risk taken by the companies within the Group in conjunction with the business managers.
- Assist the Legal Counsel team and *** OGC with the management and administration of general matters for the Group, such as employment and other corporate policies.
- Company Secretarial and other corporate project support as required.
ABOUT YOU
- Legal Qualification (e.g., ILEX, Law degree, LPC, BVC)
- Work experience in legal environment either in-house or private practice
- Good knowledge and experience of commercial and contract law.
- Good knowledge of Intellectual Property law.
- Good knowledge of data protection law.
- Strong contract drafting skills
- Extremely sound administration - organised and methodical
- Good written and oral communication including letter writing
- Confident, professional and approachable in dealings with clients in the business and external advisers
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Presentation skills and public speaking e.g. for conducting training.
- Hardworking, conscientious, responsible, honest
- Pride in doing a job well, providing a good service
- Interested in legal and *** and keen to develop knowledge
- Can handle moderate to high levels of responsibility
- Can handle confidential issues discreetly
