The Dr. Seuss Experience is back and better than ever! After a brief 2020 hiatus, we are proud to re-launch the internationally-recognized Dr. Seuss Experience in downtown Houston, Texas! This larger-than-life experience brings 9 of Dr. Seuss’ most famous works into the physical world for the first time through interactive playrooms, art installations and games fit for the whole family! To help maintain the integrity and quality of our Experience props and scenic elements, we are on the lookout for a team of highly skilled scenic, prop and artsy masterminds to handle the day-to-day maintenance and repair of our Experience. The position can be viewed in two segments:
Pre Production - Assisting our production team with the installation of the Experience, sponging in all information possible as how to install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot and improve our offerings. Pre production is scheduled to run from Mid-April 2021 - Mid May 2021
Run of Show - You and/or the scenic team will be on site during all operational hours, ensuring any breakages, outages or touch ups are completed in a timely, safe and efficient manner. There will be times additional hours before opening/after closing will be required for more intricate repairs or touch ups. This is schedule to run from Mid May 2021 - Mid August 2021.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma Preferred. Degree in set design, show production, design, TV Production, Art, A/V (Audio/Visual), Mechanics, or similar a huge plus. Experience in these fields in place of education is acceptable.
- Familiarity with the Houston area - you know where to find anything and everything and have a great rolodex of contacts and potential vendors to help us bring this to life!
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to think quick on your feet, find out-of-the-box solutions, and work with a team of success-oriented managers and fellow scenic department team members on solutions to challenges.
- Ability to work 40-50 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and holidays
- This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, kneeling and climbing. All applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- All qualified candidates may require passing a criminal background and vulnerable sector check.
- Applicant must be able and willing to follow all safety guidelines in line with venue requirements, as well as COVID-19 mandates.
- A valid US Driver’s license is required.
- Fluency in English required.
