*** is seeking a highly-skilled and creative veteran journalist to serve as Senior Producer for Weekend Edition and for the weekend version of Up First, *** ’s daily news podcast. Weekends are special, and *** ’s Weekend Edition digs into the news of the week with a distinctive, thoughtful approach.
Weekend Edition’s Senior Producer develops timely, original content for the upcoming shows and future shows and leads the team in initiating, researching and executing major projects. They help guide the shape of the programs and take responsibility for production integrity and quality of the final broadcast/published product.
The Senior Producer is a leader on the staff, working closely with hosts and supervisors. They offer feedback and mentorship to production and editorial colleagues and help build smart, thoughtful shows every week that help our audience *** ter understand the world and showcase the highest standards of audio journalism.
The ideal candidate for this position will believe deeply in the responsibility of public ser *** journalism. They will have a capacity and passion for mentoring staff at all skill levels, and will thrive in a deadline-driven and collaborative environment. They will be an excellent and omnivorous journalist, comfortable with planning a reporting trip or a series, field recording under a range of conditions, structuring a radio piece, writing for the ear, and sound design and mixing - all while maintaining the highest standards of judgment and accuracy. They will be confident and nimble in a breaking news situation, whether they are building a broadcast board at *** headquarters or producing in the field.

RESPONSIBILITIES - Regularly rotates into Line Producer role, taking responsibility for the quality of the final broadcast/published product
- Takes the lead on Weekend Edition’s special projects and series - assigning staff, keeping the teams on schedule, and striving for consistently excellent, ambitious enterprise work
- Organizes and disseminates information to coordinate both week-of and future coverage with colleagues on the show and elsewhere at the network
- Provides guidance, mentoring and feedback on production skills to staff at all levels
- Consistently pitches forward-looking, news-driven stories that inform our audience and provide nuance and context to the important stories of the week, and books and produces them for air
- Edits tape and writes copy with very minimal supervision and direction
- Functions as one of the key i *** uencers on shape, look and sound of content, collaborating with hosts and staff in organizing, focusing and drafting their stories and interviews.

QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in broadcast journalism/news
REQUIRED S****S - At least 10 years of experience as a reporter or producer in the audio space
- Thorough knowledge of news and feature reporting techniques and demonstrated writing ability
- Experience with audio production: understanding of story pacing, audio edit quality, and use of scoring when appropriate
- Demonstrated experience in editorial decision-making
- Demonstrated skill in conceptualizing, planning and executing multi-part stories.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a decisive leader, as well as a collaborative team member, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at *** and within the public radio system.
PREFERRED - Expertise in producing under breaking news conditions.
- Daily news experience.
- Broadcast experience.
- Experience in Digital *** , CMS.
This position is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The minimum annualized salary for this position is $120,000. Does this sound like you?
