TECHNICAL DIRECTOR:
As Technical Director at Virtual Production House Vancouver, you will be responsible for the development and execution of the company’s Virtual Production solutions and services framework. This includes human resources planning & training, technical workflow development & implementation, project budgeting support & technical client liaison activities.
You’ll work closely with the executive team as we build the market for virtual production services in Vancouver and conduct research and development on new virtual production techniques and capabilities, while contributing daily input to our growth strategy. As an early hire in a senior position, emphasis will be placed on a constructive and inclusive leadership style, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to create a company experience that focuses on learning, growth, and a supportive professional environment.
YOUR ROLE:
Work with the executive team to create an R&D roadmap to support new developments in display, rendering, hardware and software ventures.
Work with the executive team to create a human resources roadmap to support development of technical departments and increasing complexity of product and service offerings.
Work with the executive team and department leadership to propose, develop, and refine workflows and communication affecting development, art, and production teams.
Participate in client meetings as a key representative of the studio’s technical and artistic capabilities
Conduct internal and external client needs assessments in order to prescribe approaches, allocate resources, and identify technical/artistic challenges as necessary to deliver projects on time and on budget.
Lead the design, building and maintenance of the video distribution and monitoring system for on set display volume work.
Lead the design, building and maintenance of the network infrastructure for the entire system.
Maintain thorough understanding and knowledge of industry-standard tools and technologies and ensure that in-house processes follow industry advancements and updates.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced knowledge of CG/VFX technology platforms and disciplines including Unreal Engine, with a detailed understanding of how these are deployed within production and post-production
Advanced knowledge and understanding of (motion) tracking systems and real-time render processes
Advanced knowledge of large multi-source video systems.
Advanced knowledge of Brompton LED processing equipment and workflows
Advanced knowledge of timing systems (sync generators, master clocks, etc)
Must be able to execute technically difficult work and maintain a productive attitude under the pressure of live action production.
Must be an excellent troubleshooter to diagnose and solve issues in complex integrated systems of computers, video recording systems, software, and other sensor driven systems.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
Must be detail oriented, highly organized and be able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
Familiarity with CAD software an asset
