Job Summary/Description:
**** 8 News is seeking an energetic, sincere, journalistically sound Anchor/Executive Producer to serve our vibrant region. The desired candidate will be comfortable a newsroom leader and a coach to our team.
The right candidate will have a demonstrated track record of best practices, including solid broadcast writing, real-time management of live assets, and development of showcased strong leads. The right candidate will coach other producers and reporters to be *** ter journalists, focused on writing, story treatment, and content engagement.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Anchor live television broadcasts for our *** evening newscasts (5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m.) Monday-Friday, and fill-in on other newscasts as needed
- Ability to engage with the audience from the anchor desk, not just read a teleprompter. Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
- Aggressively seeks opportunities to cover breaking news on all platforms
- Commits to giving each newscast different personalities by diversifying content
- Ensures all stories are showcased appropriately, focusing on layered coverage and using available elements, including maps, graphics, live pictures, and video setups
- Copy edits scripts to ensure accuracy, fairness, and deliverability
- Inspires producers and directors to create “planned elements of surprise” during the newscast
- Produce newscasts when needed
- Other duties may be assigned depending on needs of the newsroom
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Ability to write for on-air, web stories, and social ***
- Strong organizational and presentation skills
- Ability to field anchor major news events live in the field
- Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and libel laws
- A demonstrated record of affecting change through positive interaction
- A proven track record of finding unique stories
- Competitive, energetic, and self-starter with a willingness to learn
- Enjoy a fast-paced environment with a desire to win
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Possess strong leadership skills, exceptional news judgment, and professional knowledge of news operations are required
- Be a quick thinker ready for anything, and have strong ad-lib abilities
- Five years of reporting experience and at least two years of anchoring experience
- College degree in journalism or a related field is preferable
- Newsroom Management experience a plus
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Must have a college degree in a related field or equivalent job experience in the journalism-related field
