Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. THE JOB:

The Broadcast & IT Field Engineer is tasked with timely and professional technical support in a fast paced 24x7x365 field newsgathering/production environment. Individuals in this job have fully demonstrated the skills, knowledge and competencies necessary to set up and operate a satellite news gathering ("SNG") truck, setting up video streaming hardware, perform quality control and maintenance and repair of all television remote broadcast and/or satellite transmission and receiving equipment, as well as performing general hardware and software support for local computing equipment (e.g. laptops, LAN connection, digital phones) on site.

This position requires proficient electronics and IT support skills. Travel often on short notice is required and the ability to physically lift and move equipment weighing 50 pounds or more may be necessary. Willingness to perform varied tasks when required on assignment to support the production. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations frequently encountered in field remote environments. Excellent customer ser *** and communication skills (verbal, written) required.

This position will primarily provide field support but will also spend time in-house, or assisting Broadcast and IT teams with project and maintenance work when not otherwise deployed in field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate a satellite truck and/or portable satellite, microwave and streaming equipment to provide multi-path transmissions (IP/Video/Audio) from outside broadcast locations. This includes equipment transport, set-up, operation and breakdown and may also include truck maintenance. *** & contracted SNG trucks / Newsgathering vehicles are multi-path mobile production platforms thus requiring one to be well versed in the operation and maintenance of on-board systems such as cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, RF and specialized transmission gear (MIMO, COFDM, bonded cellular). Perform 24x7x365 broadcast technical support to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated streaming, audio and video remote broadcast production/television equipment. This includes equipment at Production Centers, Bureaus, and outside broadcast locations, as well as ENG crew gear. Coordinate technical installation with vendors and/or production teams. (30%)
May act in a lead (Engineer-in-Charge) technical role while on remote or project assignment. Must demonstrate versatility and willingness to perform varied tasks as required on field assignments which may include operating video/audio equipment. Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems and be able work independently and autonomously in a team based environment. (15%)
Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials (Electrical, Conceptual drawings) and project work material as applicable. (5%)

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Typically 4 or more years of experience in radio and/or in television, including troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of TV, radio equipment, IT systems, satellite, production servers and studio systems; IP streaming systems, file ingest systems and quality control.
Multi-cameras field-based production experience

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel on International remote assignments and ability to travel on short notice for extended and potentially inter *** te time periods
Willingness to learn *** / *** proprietary equipment and to facilitate repairs on field equipment while on assignment.
Ability to coordinate and communicate well with others to get the work done.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Extensive experience with high throughput, distributed systems
Deep knowledge and experience with video streaming standards (DASH and HLS)
Deep knowledge and experience with video encoding standards (H.264, H.265) and FFMPEG
Deep knowledge of video quality metrics and industry practices (PSNR, SSIM, VMAF, BD-Rate)
Mastery of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Excellent Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis
Ability to work on a diverse team

The Role
The *** Technology Services team is dedicated to enhancing the productivity of *** employees by offering seamless technology experiences. We're looking for a versatile, adaptable and experienced AV Engineer to join our UCAN team, located in our office in Los Gatos, California. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and a quick response time to ensure the smooth running of our services. As an AV Engineer, your primary role will be within AV Operations, where you'll be responsible for managing the global conference room AV experience. In AV Operations, we strive to improve user experience in collaboration, communication and productivity by identifying the AV needs of users, proactively testing new technological solutions, and monitoring/interpreting ticket data to find and reduce friction. We then provide tools, guidance and support to ensure the best experience. We value quick adaptation to new technologies and the ability to implement them swiftly and efficiently. You will also work cross-functionally within AV Events, which includes managing the setup, support, and teardown of AV equipment and coordinating with external vendors as necessary. This position requires flexible hours as events may take place after normal business hours or on the weekend. In addition, our AV team aids in the design and construction of meeting spaces throughout our enterprise and studio facilities. We rely on Google Meet with Chromebox for Meetings hardware for the virtual meeting experience, and build solutions to optimize the experience. You'll be empowered to look for ways to optimize the conference room experience for users and partner teams, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in meeting diverse needs. Strategic Priorities:

Leverage data to identify and eliminate friction or inefficiency in AV Systems.
Collaborate closely with the support team to quickly recognize trends, pinpoint root causes, and refine designs to enhance stability.
Install and maintain audio visual equipment including display devices, projectors, televisions, camera systems, video teleconferencing systems, microphones and speakers.
Consult with stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, and deliver AV requirements.
Create, maintain, and effectively communicate documentation and processes to improve user experience and promote self-service.
Manage equipment inventory across our Los Gatos campus.
Handle vendor management, particularly with AV Integrators and Managed Ser *** Providers, which includes tracking and escalating issues as necessary.
Act as the site lead to dispatch MSP technicians and foster relationships with key stakeholders.
Cultivate the partnership with Google to resolve Google Meet issues and introduce features that enhance the user experience.
Refine existing system designs to help create the optimal video conference experience, considering maintenance, scalability and rapid deployment.
Provide technical support to other Engineers across various AV domains (Builds, Events, Studio) when required.
Provide live event technical support acting as a member of the AV crew, providing pre-production through post-production and operating production equipment.
Help with commissioning and handover of all new conference, specialty, studio, and event spaces in Los Gatos.
Promote cross-functional partnerships with *** teams working in-region.

Skills for Success:

Experience supporting and managing vendors in corporate and studio AV environments
Proficiency with Enterprise VC solutions (preferably Google Meet, but also Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Bluejeans, Cisco Telepresence, etc.)-both hardware and software, and administrative fleet management.
