To meet students where they are, we will host internships in both a virtual and in-person format. Opportunities listed will either be in-person based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs. Some of our internship opportunities that begin in September will continue through the Academic Year and end in April. - Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

The below opportunities listed offer an extended internship experience which will span the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Working over winter break will not be required.Operations & Technology (O&T) is a $1B operating cash flow ($1.5B FCF) division of *** Universal. The group functions as a global shared ser *** within *** Universal performing critical functions including *** , Broadcast and Studio Operations & Production, Content Supply Chain, Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Cyber Security. The group operates from numerous locations around the world, including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Denver, Connecticut, and London.
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
- Rockefeller Center Operations: At Rock Center Ops we support *** Network, MS *** , *** and *** News Now. We manage and schedule all the studio and control room crews throughout 30 Rock. We also help support corporate events and other productions. As the intern, you will be exposed to all 4 platforms from a technical standpoint. You will be paired and get hands-on experience in our *** and control rooms. You could be paired with a crew member in *** learning - utility, A2, SM, or possibly camera work. In the Control room you could learn more about what it takes to be a TD, A1, Video or Graphics crew member. Or you could learn how to be a Technical Production Manager. You will also be exposed to our Staging environment and possibly Hair, Makeup and Wardrobe - depending on your specific interests. 2023-2024 will be a busy year as we will be leading up to 2024 Elections. You will learn about live productions and what it takes to make air. Ultimately, you will learn about different departments and how it all plays in getting or supporting our on-air product.
- News Group Product & Strategy: The News Group Product and Strategy Team offers an exciting and collaborative environment, with smart and hardworking individuals who are responsible for App leadership and direction for News Group tools. Additional responsibilities include; building creative technology and App solutions, driving innovation and reinvention of news technologies and workflows, executing on strategic projects and financial initiatives, continually exploring emerging technologies, performing competitive benchmarking, and future-proofing the News Group. This summer's projects include generative AI applications, and pilot for NRCS and much more! You'll get to learn about how product roadmap is defined and managed, evaluate potential problems and suggest solutions, communicate with Project and Program Managers to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives, and assist with quality reviews, contractual deliverables, and milestones.
- *** Retail Operations: Our team operates the The Shop at *** *** . We manage the general operation of business as well as develop product in conjunction with the shows ( Tonight, Late Night, Today, and SNL). Most of our product is exclusive , but we do have some licensed product that can be found in other retailers such as Golden Girls, Friends, The Office and other *** Legacy properties. We also carry *** Sports and News product and legacy items that feature the *** or logo. On our Tour side, we are working on a completely re-imagined Studio Tour. We also manage the Screening Room which is behind our Shop and manage stand by ticketing for the show audience as well as assist Audience Services with their gathering and organizing of the Show audiences on a daily basis. As the Intern, you will get to work with the retail and 30 Rock tour team. Some tasks will involve analysis, research, customer interaction, product development, special events, tour scheduling, and deck preparation. You will work directly with VP, Directors and managers.
QualificationsBasic Requirements:- Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by *** Universal.
- Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
Desired Characteristics:- Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communication, or similar major having taken/taking a broadcast class.
- Passionate for live tv and wants to learn the business.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365, specifically with Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of Figma is a plus!
- Some knowledge of the software development lifecycle and agile is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft O365 Suite.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
The hourly rate for student interns is $17.00 - $30.00.
