Assignment Desk Editor assigns news stories to news personnel, integrates visual content and audio material to create compelling stories; as well as completes daily editing projects for multiple platforms. Our ideal candidate is someone who would embrace additional newsroom duties, including some web producing and broadcast writing.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:- Develop story or content ideas, considering on-air and online audience appeal.
- Research trends and build contacts with key PR people, public information officers, and other newsmakers
- Collaborate with anchors, reporters, and producers on video elements of newscasts.
- Send teams of reporters and news videographers on location to film breaking news
Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:- Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with co-workers in all departments.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Quick and decisive decision-making skills.
- Experience in digital publishing applications, multi *** production software and writing for web/broadcast
- Knowledge of *** production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
- Create alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual *** .
- Detail oriented.
Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, or English (or equivalent experience may substitute) and three years' experience as news assignment editor.
TRAINING/EQUIPMENT: Utilize state-of-the-art television technology; MS Outlook, E-mail.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Must be willing to work weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), as well as be able to work any and all shifts as necessary, including overnights/early mornings, nights, and holidays.
The employee in this position must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
