Summary of the RoleResponsible for strategic input for Production improvements, leading and managing change.
Provides leadership for culture, values and expectations, empowering Head of Departments, Company Management and Assistant General Managers with accountability for delivering an engaged workforce.
Day to day running of the productions, problem solving and decision-maker.
Ensuring that Head of Departments, Company Management and Assistant General Managers are empowered and capable of managing teams in an appropriate and timely way, in an environment of high volume and often fairly intense co *** ict management.
Utilising strong negotiation skills to manage internal and external contacts covering such areas as; union negotiations, cast and crew employment, housing bids, rehearsal venue hire etc.
This role also manages the performance and development of staff both individually and in teams, to ensure that the shows perform at a first class level 8 times a week.
The General Manager Production has financial responsibility for both the London and Tour production budgets and works with the Director, Production to ensure accurate reporting and management of same.
Principal Responsibilities FINANCEUltimate responsibility for the production budgets on the shows (typically two) this role is responsible for. Annually show operating budgets are typically £15 million per production.
Creates annual operating budgets ensures budget is managed throughout the year by working closely with Finance to create accurate and timely budget reports highlighting areas of possible over-spend / anomalies in variance reports on a regular basis.
Has a thorough knowledge of budget and leads senior management through both budgets at regular meetings.
Uses comprehensive understanding of show's operations to flag any potential ways to improve current practice and create savings.
Approves extraordinary budget items as appropriate.
Ultimate responsibility for weekly payroll. Signatory for all departmental invoices and bankers cheques on both productions.
SHOW OPERATIONS/PERSONNELEffective management and leadership of ten Heads of Department per show, a Company Manager per show, Associate GM and oversees management of staff. Provides guidance and coaching in co *** ict resolution and where required undertakes formal hearings and escalations. A good knowledge of HR policies and procedures required. Liaise with HR Management on all aspects of employment legislation. Thorough knowledge of and adherence to the Working Time Directive is essential.
Day-to-day Management with Company, Stage Management and Creatives to oversee staffing and show-related matters (technical difficulties with the show, possible show stops and decision making on next steps, cast emergencies/injuries).
Directs recruitment of all crew staff for both productions, requiring thorough technical knowledge and understanding of job roles and the specific skills required.
UNIONSDiscussess and execute BECTU, EQUITY and MU union contract negotiations. Initially meet with cast and crew union representatives to negotiate and discuss proposals for the next contract (on a usual 2/3 year basis). Agree mutual final inclusions to the contract with the unions included and communicate this across all departmental boards. Liaises with SOLT representatives as required.
CHILD EMPLOYMENT REGULATIONS, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENTCreates the strategy for an effecting Club School which supports THE LION **** Productions. Directs Associate General Manager to act as main liaison with the Cub School Teachers and chaperones and to be responsible for maintaining a good relationship with all parents. Supervises Associate General Manager to manage both schools, teaching over 80 children..
Named licensee holder for all children employed on both productions. Directs Associate GM to create Responsible for devising the Performance Schedule and supervisor of all Children Entertainment Licenses.
PR, MAR****NG AND SPECIAL EVENTSCreates content for live and promotional events pertaining to THE LION ****. These events are: PR opportunities with cast appearances, industry showcases, hospital visits using cast in full costume and puppet elements, meet and greets arrangements, SOLT group visits, educational initiatives, television appearances. Directs show production team and local creative team to carry out first class event on budget with a strict adherence to health and safety requirements.
AUDITIONS/CASTINGParticipation in all final auditions, discussions with Associate Creative Teams to plan ahead with cast offers for both the touring and London productions.
Ability to manage relationships effectively with external agencies in discussing actors' employment contracts and negotiating terms favourable to *** Theatrical.
Thorough and current knowledge of all London rehearsal venues essential.
PRODUCTION ADMINSTRATIONManages and delegates responsibilities for direct reports including Associate General Manager. Meets regularly to supervise tasks and control career development.
Oversees entire work visa processes for new and current cast members.
Manage a succession of site surveys for the touring production, visiting all eleven possible venues and establishing good working practices with the theatre staff.
Supervise and oversee travel for all members of Production Dept in the UK, plus occasionally offering support with US staff travel plans, in conjunction with the NY office.
DEVELOPMENTOversees and drives management on set up and running of UK-based creative workshops for DTP productions in development.
Acts as Deputy to Director Prodcution EMEA to cover holidays and absences.
Experience and Professional Qualifications Required- Previous experience in a busy management role
- Theatrical environment experience
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Accuracy and attention to detail are key with an organised approach
- Strong team player, with experience dealing with staff at all levels in a professional manner
- Experience in dealing with international contacts an advantage
Skills Required- Experience with large scale productions
- Ability to negotiate using past experiences within theatrical fields to develop expertise
- Establish firm contacts to help build relations within the industry and to maintain the *** brand
- Proven ability to lead and empower a diverse team in a theatrical environment
- Proven strength in strategic thinking to drive improvements and lead change within the productions
