K *** 3, News Now Omaha, the *** affiliate in Omaha, Nebraskaowned by The *** *** Company, is looking for a Multi *** Journalist and Producer to tell the most important stories in the market each day. The station is seeking a skilled newscast producer who will also be an MMJ. The candidate will work 4-days per week, producing an hour-long 10pm newscast on weekends, and working as an MMJ two weekdays.
This is an ideal position for a producer who would like to branch out into reporting. In both roles, the candidate is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing journalism stories for multiple platforms.
K *** is one of the most innovative local newsrooms in the country. This is the first time in 5-years this particular position has been open. The newsroom has strong leadership and a team atmosphere.
**** YOU'LL DO:- Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
- Produces hour-long 10pm Newscast on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Produces packages and appears on-air as an MMJ two days per week.
- Organizes material, determines perspective or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and formatting standards.
- Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multi *** platforms.
- Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.
- Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
- Works cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
- Assists online staff in preparing for multi *** stories.
- Reports on a variety of subjects and write stories for broadcasts and sweeps pieces.
- Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories and for posting to online and social platforms.
- Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
**** YOU'LL NEED:- Bachelor degree preferred in Journalism (or related field).
- 2 years of experience in television producing or reporting (MMJ).
**** YOU'LL BRING:- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Storytelling ability.
- Videography and non-linear editing experience.
- Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
- Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
- Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
- Computer literate, including newsroom computer systems.
- Proficient at posting content to various platforms.
- Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
- The ability to work a flexible schedule is required for this position, as fill-in work will be required.
