One gains this rating through a significant amount of experience and scuba training that you have accumulated over your diving lifetime. It is also the highest certification that you can acquire before going pro! The path starts with earning an Open Water Diver certification, followed by an Advanced Open Water Diver, with a final certification of a PADI Rescue Diver. You will also need to earn five Specialty Diver certifications, those have a total of twenty one training dives and also logged a minimum of fifty recreational dives. My personal timeline was just shy of eighteen months while working with five dive shops in three countries...
