Meet Our Team:
The Commerce group is part of the Core & Data organization within WBD's Global Tech division. Our services handle all aspects of monetizing our streaming services. This includes everything from managing products, pricing, and promotions; selling subscriptions and pay-per-view events; integration with 3rd party providers for global and local payment methods; handling taxes, fraud, financial reporting, and much, much more. We provide the backend APIs that power all our clients, and our teams own design, build, maintain, and are responsible to both deploy and operate our services. The group is currently based in US, Sweden, and Poland and is now expanding in India.
About you:
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join our team in Hyderabad. The ideal person has a track record of creating the identity for a larger team and defining how that team works within a larger organization. You have mastered the ability to delegate tasks and larger assignments to your team and ensure that the right results are achieved even without your constant oversight. You are a leader that people turn to when they want to build something new as you can align with company priorities and processes, and create new ones where needed
About the role:
- You understand a broad range of computer science concepts and know-how, when and when not to use them. You can dive deep into a wide range of technical problems offering suggestions and feedback to your team. Your interest in computer science has remained strong as you moved into a leadership role, and you are still comfortable with technical details.
- You can build and lead a relatively large team of full-time engineers facing ambiguity. You define the team's purpose and identity. You ensure alignment within the direct team(s), and contribution and alignment to the broader departmental goals.
- Your problems are diverse in scope and may need to be defined. You find solutions independently with minimal support from leadership. You're a role model for independent problem solving for team members.
- Your written and verbal communication skills are top-notch. You can distil key points out of complex technical descriptions to share with non-technical stakeholders, adapting your language and style of communication depending on the audience. You communicate through data, dates, and facts using emotion judiciously to motivate and inspire.
- You lead by example and are comfortable teaching best practices by showing people, not just telling people. Teams follow your lead because you are an inspirational leader, because you are right, and because you can show everyone high-quality examples of your work.
- You i *** uence discussions with peers, manager, and key stakeholders. You give feedback around strategic planning on what needs to be built and how. You i *** uence and work effectively with Product and other cross functional groups. You i *** uence larger priorities and make tradeoffs (e.g. risk vs resources vs sustainability).
- You have demonstrated the ability to make great hiring decisions, as is evidenced by the performance of the engineers on your team. You can inspire, challenge, and grow top engineers.
- You have demonstrated the capacity to make decisions for more than one engineering team or functional area showing that your judgment is fungible.
What to Bring:
- 16+ years of total exp and should have experience in Java and a few other languages.
- Ability to quickly understand and guide the development of distributed, asynchronous services involving many components and complex architecture and design; experience with popular tech stacks and design patterns used in such systems.
- Deep understanding of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Deep knowledge of AWS services, and deeper knowledge of EC2, S3, Kinesis, CloudFront and CloudWatch, and other content delivery networks.
- Comfortable with design and code-level details - be a great sounding board and mentor for team members at all levels. Ability to dive deep into technical issues and take a hands-on approach to help the team solve technical problems.
- Proven track record of successfully engaging with stakeholders globally and from multiple functions such as tech, product, legal, distribution, and finance.
