Your New Role...The EVS/HEGO operator is responsible for EVS, HEGO and File Server operation as well as playback, recording, quick turn editing, telestration effects, slow-motion controlled replays during studio and/or on remote broadcasts. The EVS/HEGO operator will be responsible for maintaining a high level of skill and knowledge regarding the EVS and HEGO systems including but not limited to elements like video, animations, transitions, displaying game breakdowns through telestration and more.
Your Role Accountabilities...LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS
- Operates EVS/HEGO and file server equipment (playback, recording, editing, telestration effects, slow-motion replay)
- Operates video and audio routers
- Creatively and proactively sell edited shots and/or telestration plays to the Show Producer, Assistant Director and/or Talent with an understanding of the storytelling needed for the Production without guidance
- Producing quick turn editing for replays, teasers and highlight packages under the pressure and time constraints of live television
- Anticipate the proper clips to use while editing segments of the show needed for a later airing
- Collaborate with the Show Assistant Director and corresponding remote sites to help achieve the video needs of the assigned production
- Archives video and audio clips as necessary to maintain an effective level of clip storage
- Creatively displaying game breakdowns through telestration
- Able to follow live games and games' stat sites to understand potential focal points for game breakdowns
- Able to build HEGO elements under pressure with strict time constraints
- Able to access different game feed ingest/records through our network/database surrounding the Producer's needs for the show
- Able to create the correct file types and transcodes when transferring HEGO files for playout or edit
COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
- Works closely with the EVS Technical Specialist and the Senior EVS operator to gain more in-depth knowledge on file server information, file types/transcodes and advanced EVS/HEGO operations
- Work closely with Technical Operations and Production (BEST) Engineering to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical problems with EVS/HEGO machines and/or workflow. Making sure each problem is resolved to completion
- Works with the Senior EVS operator to create documentation for the set up of the EVS/HEGO machine workflow for the assigned Production
- Work closely with Producers and/or On-Air Talent to create breakdowns of individual plays or series of plays that are visually appealing and tell a story to the viewers
- Collaborates with Production (BEST) Engineering, Technical Operations and Production Management to identify software upgrades, add-ons or new software needed for the storytelling process
Qualifications & Experiences...- 6 - 8 years of network level broadcast production experience operating as an EVS and/or HEGO Operator for live and/or taped studio and remote productions
- Knowledgeable of current industry standards
- Knowledge of File Server operations (IP Director, XFile)
- Knowledge of video and audio router operations
- Able to read and understand documentation for set up of EVS machine workflow for assigned production
- Knowledge of Chyron HEGO software
- Knowledge of file and audio transcoders plus the different formats they produce
- Able to read and understand documentation for set up of HEGO machine workflow for assigned production
- Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Must take ownership and accountability for assigned productions
- Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye
- Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints
- Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays
Not Required but preferred experience:
- Knowledgeable of iNews
- Knowledge of major sports (NBA, MLB, NHL, US Soccer, etc)
- Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon
