JOB SUMMARY:
- Deliver newscasts and news stories accurately, clearly and concisely.
- Evaluate news leads to develop story ideas as part of the weekend editorial meeting.
- Make editorial decisions for weekend newscast.
- Mentor weekend producers, reporters, photographers and assignment editors
- Write teases and stories as needed. Copyedit scripts.
- Use social platforms to post content and give updates throughout the evening.
- Report three days a week. Most of the time you will work with a photographer. Must be able to MMJ when needed.
- Conducts interviews with public officials and members of the public.
- Responds to breaking news and other urgent situations as required.
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Writes content for the website and other e *** platforms.
- Interacts with viewers/users on social *** sites.
- Shoot and edit video as assigned.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must interact positively and productively with employees in the field and in the studio.
- Strong news judgement with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
- Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.
- Strong reporting skills.
- Understand importance of social *** .
- Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in communication/journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education); plus (3) years television anchoring or reporting experience required.
