*** O-TV in New Orleans has an exciting opportunity for an entry level News Production Assistant! We are looking for an energetic, reliable, and creative candidate to help prepare and execute on-air newscasts. This person may also create content for our digital and social platforms (website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). This is a great entry-level position for someone looking to launch a career in news, television, or various digital and social roles.

This position works closely with newsroom managers/leaders, newscast producers, and production crew to deliver late-breaking, informative news, weather, and traffic coverage in the Greater New Orleans region.

Responsibilities include:

Live shot coordination with Newscenter and field crews for our Morning, Evening, and/or Weekend Newscasts
Prepping for newscasts including but not limited to: Assignment Desk, studio and set preparation.
Operate teleprompter during newscasts, breaking news, and specials
Video editing for newscasts
Creating content for our digital and social platforms
Track, document and communicate technical and operational notes to Production, News, Engineering and Creative Services management as appropriate.
Reconcile technical and operational issues related to daily News production processes.
Provide other production support (live and pre-recorded) for News Specials, Creative Services, Sports, Special Events, Digital and Client production.
Facilitate production support aligned with Departmental and Station business objectives and priorities as required.
Precise time management and ability to work efficiently under hard deadlines.
Demonstrates composure and timely decision-making in a dynamic, fluid and vigorous environment associated with live News production.
Other duties as assigned

Experience:

Experience is not necessary, but education and/or internship in television or related field preferred
Training will be provided
Shifts vary; must be able to work morning, evening, and/or weekends, as needed

*** O-TV in New Orleans is seeking a skilled meteorologist to join our team. As a meteorologist, you will work with the News Director and fellow meteorologists to shape the vision and provide constructive feedback to our weather department. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to craft and deliver engaging, easy-to-understand forecasts for both our television broadcasts and digital platforms.

New Orleans is the major league capital of tropical weather coverage. This is why weather is a critical need for our viewers. The public's safety is a vital concern for us. We take our responsibility very seriously. Accuracy is essential in our work. You will be responsible for comprehensive coverage of severe weather events and hurricanes, conveying information with urgency while maintaining a reassuring demeanor.

Our meteorologists must excel in a multi-platform environment and will contribute to our digital platforms, including social *** engagement and *** o.com.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Forecast weather conditions and produce/anchor weather reports on all platforms in a clear, engaging, and impactful manner.
Take ownership and execute our "Forecast First" weather.
Respond urgently to breaking and severe weather events on all platforms including broadcast, digital, *** o.com, and social *** .
Collaborate with a growing team of meteorologists.
Write and update detailed daily web stories.
Take part in promotional activities and public appearances.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Build a forecast that relates to our viewers.
Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
Must know about weather forecasting and systems.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with WSI Max technology.
College degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or related field of study preferred.
Minimum two years' experience preferred as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
Certified Broadcast designation from AMS and/or NWA
Interacts with viewers and users on social *** sites.
Ability to enterprise weather-related stories during the week.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts.
Must be able to work under deadlines and can multi-task.
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

News Producer

*** O-TV, the *** affiliate in New Orleans, is looking for an experienced and creative news producer. The successful candidate must have outstanding news judgment, must know how to handle breaking news, utilize all live elements, and be dynamic. The candidate must also deliver and contribute accurate, visual news content across all platforms under deadline in a fast-paced newsroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Communicates with reporters and content center to develop storytelling within broadcast
Writes for broadcast including intros and tags creating cohesive storytelling
Works with Executive Producer and Assistant News Director to execute daily newscasts
Participates in daily editorial meetings
Boothing assigned newscasts, breaking news and weather events
Commands control in control room by communicating clear vision to production team, reporters, photographers and anchors
Builds relationships with all team members proactively including anchors, sports and meteorologists.
Assists in the production of special projects and other content related to program and/or station
Balance of strong journalist skills, ability to execute action plans and creative vision to support strong show delivery
Ability to recognize stories with potential and develop them into compelling broadcast content
Ability to scour social *** for story ideas and make calls to confirm
Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Must be available to work holidays, shifts including nights, weekends and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Effective writing skills a must, along with good organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
Ability to meet quality standards for ser *** and evaluate customer satisfaction.
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and at least two years work-related experience preferred.
Required to post digital/social *** content.
Utilize state-of-the-art broadcast and digital technology.
Prior experience with ENPS a plus.
Have and exhibit the highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Journalism or Communications preferred

This Summer, 2024 internship is for a college senior interested in practical experience in digital journalism. The intern will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in a blend of areas including, but not limited to, digital reporting, digital content management and social *** .

At *** O, the digital news intern will:

Report and write stories in accordance with Nexstar *** and Associated Press writing standards
Edit stories
Post content on our website and manage the website
Love breaking news and the challenge of reporting a big story
Create engaging social *** content with graphics, wit and timeliness
Be curious and want to learn
Possess journalistic integrity

You'll be expected to:

Contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking news situations
Ensure that everything we publish meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Research and analyze background information for a variety of topics. This goes hand in hand with daily reporting and editing
Pitch on-brand local and trending stories
Learn and use effective content management
Be comfortable working with different technology
Demonstrate top-notch communication skills with co-workers and the public
Meet the physical demands of the job
And of course, perform other duties as assigned

Internship details:

Interns must be college students in their senior year and will receive college credit for their internship experience
The student is aware that this is a non-paid internship for Summer, 2024
Students are expected to obtain and complete any forms necessary to receive college credit
The intern's college academic advisor and institution determine the amount of credit available
Station department heads will oversee the internship to evaluate, monitor and assess the intern's progress and ensure they are receiving the proper training
The student is responsible for their own transportation
Each internship requires a minimum of 20 hours per week for 8 weeks
Upon completion of the internship, the student will be evaluated through a written review by the internship supervisor
