Broadcast Management Group (BMG) is looking for an organized Remote Transmissions Engineer. The Transmissions Engineer will work with BMG project managers and BMG clients as it relates to setting up transmission’s workflow. Candidates must be passionate about technology, extremely knowledgeable in video encoding, video over IP, satellite and fiber transmission, and have the ability to thrive in a fast paced, high-pressure environment. The Transmission Engineer must understand the benefits of the various event formats (I. e. Q&A, Training, Town Hall, Broadcast, etc.), as well as how to execute these formats flawlessly. They will also set up and test all equipment along with setting up test transmissions paths.
Job Description:
• Provide technical direction for the planning, scheduling, and delivery of transmissions services
• Develop transmissions solutions that improve reliability, scale, and performance of live feeds
• Liaise with BMG video engineering teams, applying significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to our clients
• Keep project managers well informed of status of event support efforts and serve as liaison between BMG and its clients
• Own the technical support life cycle and is be responsible for managing technical risks throughout support planning and delivery
• Communicate and enforce BMG standards, creating and defining new standards as technology and scope evolves
• Consistently delivers high-quality, high-impact services to clients
• Set up test transmissions feeds to desired destinations
• Set up and test streaming encoders and decoders
• Produces post-show analytics reports
Job Requirements:
• Offer hourly, half day and full day rates
• Has a strong internet connection at home, computer and 2-3 video monitors
• Knowledge of LiveU encoders and decoders
• Previous experience with developing and optimizing real time video streaming systems
• Deep knowledge of networking, and real-world experience with dealing with the unpredictability and variability of the internet (e.g., packet loss, latency, bandwidth estimation, FEC)
• Understanding of HLS and HLS based server-side ad stitching products
• Familiarity with different CDN vendors and their systems (e.g. Akamai, Level3, Fastly, etc.)
• Understanding of media formats on mobile devices
• 5+ years of experience working with IP protocols (http, TS via multicast, RTMP, RTSP) for live streaming delivery over the leading content distribution networks (e. g., Akamai, Level3, Facebook, etc.)
• 3+ years of experience with equipment operation experience in a live event environment
• Knowledge of common video analysis tools, particularly focused in file-based workflows
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting video encoding and streaming problems
• Experience coding in one or more scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.)
• Experienced in advanced video compression and transport system technologies.
• Experience with multiple media codecs a plus – h264, h265, VP8, VP9
• Experience with Wowza Media Server a plus
• Experience with Elemental
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and 7+ years of experience in software development
