  • Title: Staff Wildlife Videographer
  • Job Requirements: Must be local to location (or willing to work as a local).

This temporary position will be assigned to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission Office of Communications, Marketing and Digital Engagement (CMDE). This position serves as the official videographer of the NCWRC housed within the agency’s CMDE Section. Under the Internal Communications Specialist, the videographer will inspire, develop and implement an engaging video strategy to increase public awareness of NCWRC and its various programs, services and initiatives. This position is responsible for using an array of tools and platforms to create and produce high-quality, engaging wildlife-related videos that can be distributed through a variety of digital outlets from concept to final edit, along with maintaining a video catalog and searchable archive. This position requires creative spark and leadership in video development, production, project management and collaboration.
Responsible for Video Development and Production:
• Films and produces professional quality videos of wildlife, fishing, boating and outdoor recreation activities for broadcast news, social media, advertising, campaigns and other media as required.
• Conceptualizes video storyboards in collaboration with various agency staff and produces high quality multimedia content to meet agency needs.
• Scouts locations and spends time in the field capturing HD quality video of big game, upland game, waterfowl, non-game wildlife, fishing, habitats, projects, special events and agency staff at work.
• Travels to filming location to create appropriate video sequence for assignment.
• Writes and produces segments on a myriad of topics (identifying pertinent priority topics, finding sources, conducting interviews, etc.).
• Reviews projects with supervisor and internal customers to make sure projects are on-brand and effective.
• Selects proper video/audio equipment for each assignment in anticipation of its potential uses. Considerations include various lighting techniques, foreground/background, props, specific cameras and use of microphones for optimal sound quality.
• Uses specialized software, including Adobe Creative Suite, to manipulate and enhance digital files (audio, image, file format, etc.).
• Ensures post-video production (music, voice over, content, etc.) aligns with the agency brand and portrays accurate content per guidance by the subject matter expert.
Video Collaboration:
• Works with Internal Communications Specialist to prioritize agency video needs and selects appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs).
• Works with agency SMEs to coordinate, plan, produce and direct videos for educational and informational purposes.
• Regularly keeps SMEs up-to-speed on progress to ensure the correct video/audio footage is collected to effectively relay agency’s message(s).
• Collaborates with agency drone operators to capture aerial footage.
• Provides video to accompany agency news releases, websites, social media channels and staff presentations.
Video Resource:
• Provides expertise to agency on using video to communicate with external stakeholders and constituents.
• Maintains awareness of key issues, agency services and emerging trends and technologies as they relate to digital engagement.
• Identifies best practices for video technology including audio and video editing.
• Provides footage as needed to broadcast media.
• Tests and researches new equipment, video techniques and trends in visual communication.
• Recommends implementation of new tactics when appropriate.
• Collaborates with Social Media Specialist to create custom content for social media platforms and to expand the subscriber base for the agency's YouTube Channel.
Administrative Duties:
• Manages Digital Content calendar, in collaboration with the Social Media Specialist, including video project timeline and milestones, travel schedule, etc.
• Organizes and maintains digital video server archives.
• Tags videos using key words before uploading them to a searchable archival system.
• Ensures videos have accurate and accessible captions.
• Archives and organizes existing library of video footage.
• Maintains regular inventories of all video equipment and supplies.
• Prepares and submits activity reports, mileage reports, expense vouchers, incidental purchase reports, and other reports on a routine basis.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

• Thorough knowledge of videography and ability to produce professional-quality videos including composition, lighting, sound, etc.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of video editing practices for social media along with file formatting.
• Knowledge of agency programs and wildlife and fisheries conservation.
• Ability to communicate science and research-based information in layman's terms.
• Ability to interview others and tell stories through video.
• Ability to travel for required video shoots across the state.
• Ability to traverse landscapes with equipment to capture required video of wildlife and diverse landscapes.
• Ability to work in a team environment, accept project feedback and adapt if needed.
• Ability to organize, track projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to create and share video files in multiple formats and media.
• Ability to source royalty-free music that matches NCWRC's brand and the content of the video.
• Ability to enhance accessibility to video productions, such as apply closed captioning.
• Ability to adapt to changes with technology in video and social media and apply them as appropriate.
• Ability to use Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office products.
