Saving Happy Birthday, commissioned by The Guardian, is about filmmaker Jenn Nelson's campaign to liberate the song. While making a documentary about the 100-year history of the song “Happy Birthday To You,” Jennifer learned that the music publisher Warner /Chappell claimed global copyright to the song, earning $2 million a year in licensing fees. Her research suggested this copyright claim was bogus, so Nelson filed a class action suit. The New York Times called Nelson’s “Lawsuit for the Ages”.
